The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, today celebrated the recent call by the Xunta de Galicia for aid, worth 8.4 million euros, for the construction of efficient buildings intended for social rent and financed with funds from the Government's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR). They will be able to benefit both municipalities and private entities and companies that bet on the construction of housing buildings on public land or the rehabilitation of properties on public land that until now had a use other than residential, always prioritizing the criteria of efficiency, energy savings and circularity of materials.
The government delegate in Galicia, who encouraged companies and institutions to benefit from this aid, which can be requested until October 6, 2023, stressed that, with this measure, the government contributes to expand the public park of social housing and facilitates access to affordable rents to hundreds of Galician families.
In this regard, he highlighted the Executive’s impetus in the field of housing: Since 2018, the Government of Pedro Sánchez transferred to the Xunta de Galicia about 300 million euros for actions in homes, buildings and neighborhoods. In addition, he said that this budgetary commitment will have continuity this year and the next, with the objective of rehabilitating 25,000 homes in Galicia and building 1,200 new social housing.
José Miñones stressed that the Government’s housing policies and the Recovery Plan are aimed at making “housing a right of truth for Galicians and Galicians and not just an article of the Constitution.” He also highlighted the impact that these measures have on companies, specifically in the real estate sector, which has a very significant weight in the economy and in employment. “The Recovery Plan reaches Galicia and also reaches companies in the real estate sector,” he stressed.
Faced with the unique opportunity for Galicia of the Recovery Plan, the delegate again called for co-governance and public-private collaboration, to take advantage of the last plan to transform Galicia and modernize the housing stock with criteria of energy efficiency and sustainability. In this line, he also urged the Xunta not to omit the citizenship at the origin of the funds that are promoting this transformation.
