The Secretary of State for Tourism of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Rosana Morillo, and the delegate of the Government in Galicia, José Miñones, made an institutional visit to the City of Lugo and held a meeting with the mayor, Lara Méndez, in which they analyzed the impact of the tourist sustainability plans in the city. The subdelegate in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, also participated in the meeting. The attendees agreed to appreciate the extraordinary drive to modernize the city’s tourism sector that involves the injection of two million euros from the Government to transform the Factory of Light into an enogastronomy center on the Miño River, thanks to the call for sustainable tourism projects funded by the Government’s Recovery Plan. Rosana Morillo reaffirmed the commitment of the ministry and specified that government investments in tourism in Galicia reach xan 144 million euros since 2020 within the Recovery Plan.
The Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan “Et edendo lupus: a historical journey through enogastronomy” is rocked by the City of Lugo and has a budget of 2,000,000 euros, which brings the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism under the funds of the Challenge Plan. With this project the recovery in the Miño riverside of the Factory of Light building is sought for the creation of the enogastronomy center. Different actions will be carried out in order to adapt the structure to climate change, focusing on the envelope of the building carrying out the reform with bioclimatic architecture techniques.
This plan is one of the 16 projects approved for Galicia in the Extraordinary Call 2022 for Sustainability Plans, which includes 13 tourism sustainability plans and three territorial cohesion actions. In total, around 100 municipalities in Galicia will benefit from these plans. The Ministry has already opened the extraordinary call of 2023, in which the delegate encouraged all local entities to participate to continue advancing in the modernization of the tourism sector of Galicia.
The Secretary of State and delegate also transferred the mayor to the opportunity of the aid for the rehabilitation of Cultural Heritage (BIC), a call in which the City of Lugo can request up to three million euros to finance the creation of the Museum of Romanization in the headquarters of San Fernando. In addition, Rosana Morillo confirmed that the Government is working to respond to the request to declare Fiesta of International Interest lo Arde Lucus.

José Miñones and Rosana Morillo congratulated the mayor for obtaining state funds to boost tourism in Lugo and urged her to continue seeking funding in this year’s call for tourism sustainability plans, already open.
They stressed the extraordinary spirit of the Government of Pedro Sánchez is giving to the modernization of the tourist destinations of Galicia with investments totaling 85.7 million euros in 34 projects of tourism sustainability in the two calls already resolved, which impact on the whole of the Galician territory: “It is the Government of Pedro Sánchez that promoted in the COVID crisis the figure of the Tourism Sustainability Plans and it is this Government that, with the collaboration of the other administrations, with the leadership of Minister Reyes Maroto, and with the historic opportunity of the Next Generation funds, is promoting it throughout the territory,” he said.
