The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas visited today the social center of Serantes in Ferrol, to know the rehabilitation project that will be carried out thanks to the Recovery Plan of the Government of Pedro Sánchez. María Rivas has highlighted how this plan reaches the whole territory and results in the well-being, equal opportunities and quality of life of the neighbors and neighbors “regardless of where they live, city, town, village or neighborhood”.
The Government’s Recovery Plan will allocate 215,777 euros to the rehabilitation of the social building, thanks to the Plan of Promotion and Rehabilitation of Public Buildings “and that will make the neighborhood group have a premises according to their needs and their activity, which I know is intense and varied,” he said. María Rivas, recalled that the Government has allocated, through the local PIREP, 12 million euros to the province of A Coruña.
The subdelegate who visited the current premises of the Serantes premises accompanied by the mayor, Angel Mato, and the president of the neighborhood association, Luis Casas, was able to see at first hand the need to expand and rehabilitate this facility, including the library, to improve the social, cultural and leisure offer offered by this entity since 1993.
“The new building will provide an enormous service to the approximately 2,000 inhabitants who live in this characteristic and emblematic area of Ferrol, halfway between rural and urban areas,” said the deputy delegate.
María Rivas stressed the importance of neighborhood participation in the rehabilitation project that will be carried out. “That the whole process has been carried out together with the association of neighbors, dialogue, exchange impressions and suggestions with the directive is something that this Government is very proud of, because ultimately it is a service for those who live here, to generate more well-being, something that the Government of Pedro Sánchez has worked on and is working hard on.”
The current project, agreed with the neighborhood association, includes the rehabilitation of the existing building and gains in sustainability limiting the generation of waste.
As explained in the report of the project, the pandemic has generated changes in living habits, with greater seclusion and less assistance to activities in premises that do not guarantee effective sanitary conditions. This is why the project proposes larger multi-purpose rooms, with larger and more inclusive spaces.
The building will have a wooded area, another of games for girls and boys as well as a place of rest that allows to relate to people who use the premises and those who live in the neighborhood of Serantes. According to the memory of the project, through a rehabilitation intervention the excuse is sought to generate a new public space adapted and open to all citizens.
“We talk about projects in which environmental sustainability is very important, as one of the objectives of the Program and promote more energy-efficient public buildings along with accessibility and architectural quality,” said the subdelegate. And he added: “But, above all, we talk about projects that represent a before and an after for the public services provided by the municipalities in our country and therefore in this province. In this regard, the subdelegate highlighted “the social dimension and the impact on citizenship and public services” of the aid granted by the Government of Pedro Sánchez.
María Rivas pointed out that in the province of A Coruña, in addition to Ferrol, the local PIREP injects 11,730,184.13 euros to ten municipalities to finance the rehabilitation of 11 buildings of its ownership. The City Council of Santiago obtains funds for two works (3,319,427 euros to improve the sports facilities of Vite and Santa Isabel), Arteixo (199.877 euros for the rehabilitation of the chapel of the Balneario as multipurpose room), Bergondo (457,016 euros for the energy rehabilitation of the Consistorial House), Betanzos (1,482,081 euros for the Market of Supplies), Porto do Son (241,537.50 euros for the Casa do Río), Rianxo (978,710 euros for the rehabilitation of the Papal School).
