The delegate of the Government in Galicia, José Miñones, reaffirms the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the modernization of the tourist destinations of Galicia and, in particular, with the impulse to the tourism promotion of the region of Ferrolterra, in which the Executive funds three projects from which the Concello de Valdoviño benefits. These are the Surf Villages Network, included in the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans (PSTD) of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism; the tourism and commercial dynamization project; and the Xeoparque do Cabo Ortegal. The delegate held a meeting with the mayor of Valdoviño, Alberto González, at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, to address these investments and learn about the future projects of the town in tourism. “The Recovery Plan reaches Ferrolterra, reaches Valdoviño and reaches its companies,” said José Miñones.
“The Government of Pedro Sánchez has promoted the Tourism Sustainability Plans and is working in collaboration with the other administrations, with the leadership of Minister Reyes Maroto, to take advantage of the historic opportunity of the Next Generation funds. We are transforming the tourism sector in Galicia with a more sustainable and competitive model thanks to the Government Recovery Plan,” said José Miñones. The delegate exemplified this transformation in the case of Valdoviño, which benefits from the following investments in tourism:
Network of Surf Villages: The community of concellos of the region of Ferrol, in which Ferrol and Valdoviño are integrated; the town of Carballo; and the municipalities of Getxo (Euskadi), Ribamontán al Mar (Cantabria) and Castrillón (Asturias) will build a Network of Surf Villages with significant financial support from the program “Experiences Tourism Spain”. The grant amounts to about half a million euros from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, which will allow us to face this ambitious tourism project with the support of the European Next Generation funds, and which will lead the community itself.
The project includes the creation of new tourism products linked to themed sustainable activities (Surf and cultural heritage; Surf and Family Leisure, and Surf and Gastronomy), aimed at the seasonalization of tourism in the respective territories. This is precisely one of the specific actions of the network, as well as others such as: the creation of an image of its own brand; the implementation of a corporate website of Surf Villages and profiles in the different social networks; campaigns of dissemination and awareness through the networks and promotion in the media; design and execution of online training for the improvement of the competitiveness of the tourism sector linked to surfing respect for energy and digitalization, and design and execution of advisory days for the implementation of new businesses or lines of services.
In addition, surf schools, surf camps, specialist shops, shapers (artisan surfboard manufacturers), equipment suppliers, accommodation and catering companies, sports event organising companies, as well as other related tour operators will especially benefit from the project through direct participation in the proposed actions and as indirect beneficiaries of the sustainable development of surf tourism. Along these lines, it is estimated that there are about 120 specific companies linked to surfing in all the local entities that promote the initiative.
In this context, the mayor transferred to the delegate the project prepared by the City of Valdoviño to host the surf technification center in the future.
Strengthening of commercial activity in tourist areas of the province of A Coruña. The County Council of A Coruña receives an aid of 692,237 euros from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism to implement a project to improve the commercial dynamization and tourist areas in an integrated way through the intermunicipal cooperation of the municipalities of Betanzos, Pontedeume and Valdoviño. This funding allows us to launch a tourism product experience that relates trade and tourism, taking into account its close relationship and possibility of synergy.
The project will identify the existing relationships between tourist and commercial spaces, analyzing the socio-economic synergies and joint strategic proposals that allow to revitalize emblematic spaces, improve the use of commercial premises, expand the tourism offer, promote sectoral collaboration, increase the sales of trade and ultimately improve the tourism-commercial competitiveness.
Xeoparque do Cabo Ortegal. José Miñones transferred to the mayor “all the support of the Government of Spain” to the project promoted by the concellos of Amor, Cedeira, Cerdido, Moeche, Ortigueira, San Sadurniño and Valdoviño, which are part of the Association for the management of the Xeoparque do Cabo Ortegal. “Cabo Ortegal has all the necessary features to achieve international recognition as a geopark and I am sure that UNESCO auditors are checking it,” he said. The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism granted 1.5 million euros for the development of the plan of the Xeoparque do Cabo Ortegal Project in the first extraordinary call of those of the Program of Tourist Sustainability Plans in Destination, within the framework of the Recovery Plan.
