The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Emilio González, has presented the data of the UNICO-Broadband Plan in the region of Celanova. González has pointed out that this investment will bring broadband internet to more than 4,000 homes and will benefit 1,505 population entities throughout the region. This is what he said this morning at a meeting held at the Concello de Celanova. He has traveled there with the Chief of Telecommunications Inspection of the province, Enrique San Martín, who has informed all the mayors of the region – Padrenda, Verea, Gomesende, Celanova, A Merca, Cartelle, Quintela de Leirado, A Bola, Pontedeva and Ramiras – of the state of compliance of the plan, as well as of the procedures that they must carry out from the municipalities to be able to speed up the connectivity permits.
In Ourense the plan has an investment of 18,391,322 euros for 45,635 units in Ourense whose works are being carried out by the company Adamo Telecom
With this new line of aid, financed with the Next Generation EU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, a public-private investment of 388.2 million euros will be mobilized, which is in addition to the 1.120 million mobilized since 2018. These investments have enabled us to bring ultra-fast broadband connections to more than four million homes and businesses by 2021.
In the case of Galicia, as in most of the state territory, the households and companies benefited are in ‘white zones’, those that do not have coverage of speed networks of at least 30 Mbps, nor plans for their allocation in the next three years.
UNICO-Broadband Program
Under the umbrella of the Universalization of Digital Infrastructures for Cohesion (UNICO) program, the main investments of the Recovery Plan for the digital transformation of the country in the field of digital connectivity are being channeled. Specifically, UNICO-Banda Ancha aims to achieve a coverage rate of very high capacities of 100% of the Spanish population in 2025.
Once the projects benefiting from the UNICO-Broadband programme are implemented, the coverage rate will reach 95% in line with the universal connectivity set for 2025.
The Recovery Plan has provided for an investment of 2 billion euros until 2023 to extend and improve digital infrastructures, strengthen territorial cohesion and face the demographic challenge. The goal, also included in the Spain Digital 2025 agenda, is that 100% of the Spanish population will have broadband coverage by 2025.
