The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, has assured that “Extremadura is at the best economic and social moment in its history thanks to the policies of this government.” The delegate made these statements during the press conference in which he presented the balance of management of the Government of Spain in Extremadura during 2024.
Quintana has pointed out that the objective data on the economic and social reality of Extremadura “are conclusive” and that they confirm the moment our economy is going through thanks to the policies of Pedro Sánchez. The delegate has highlighted the record figure of affiliation to Social Security, the decrease in unemployment by 52% over a decade, the increase of 54% in the SMI. To this must be added the increase in pensions by 26%, the consolidation of indefinite contracts thanks to labor reform, as well as after social measures such as the Minimum Vital Income and the Social Electric Bonus.
For the delegate, all these measures, together with the investments made by the Government of Spain aimed at the transformation of our productive fabric, have managed to make Extremadura the Autonomous Community in which the real disposable income has grown the most in the last three years. These data are confirmed by the fact that VAT collection has grown by 47.8%, that the savings of the people of Extremadura have increased by 17.5% and that the regional GDP has increased by 20% since the government of Pedro Sánchez.
For Quintana, “the orientation of the investments made by the Government of Spain in Extremadura, especially those financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, have been focused on the consolidation and transformation of our productive fabric, promoting the structural conditions necessary for the promotion of our companies; which together with the social protection measures implemented, has allowed us to reach the situation in which we find ourselves”.
Last year investments in the region
The delegate explained that Extremadura has had 1,055 million euros in direct investment from the Government of Spain from the funds of the PRTR and 834 million transferred to the Junta de Extremadura from these same funds for the execution of real investments in areas of its competences.
Among the investments, Quintana has highlighted the 500 million investment in infrastructure, of which 388 have been destined for the railway; as well as the effort in protection and support for companies, promotion of innovation, digitalization and sustainability. Investments that have stood at around 600 million euros.
José Luis Quintana has been proud of the successes achieved with the policies of the Spanish Government in Extremadura because “they are bearing fruit and improving the situation of our companies and the lives of citizens.” The delegate has assured that this Government will continue to apply these policies and has regretted the rejection of all these measures by certain Spanish political formations, to which is added the inability of the opposition to present initiatives that contribute to improving the lives of citizens.
