The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, presented today in Badajoz a project that aims to promote the employment of migrants in situations of social vulnerability, while trying to alleviate the existing problems to generate labor in different sectors.
This programme is an initiative of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration and the State Secretariat for Migration, which has entrusted the NGO Accem with the management of a socio-labour integration project aimed at people from Mali. The beneficiaries are 15 young people between the ages of 22 and 30, who arrived on national territory by coast fleeing the conflict in their country.
Quintana pointed out that the purpose of the project is to support the acquisition of autonomy of the target persons, in this case young people in the protection system, as well as the consolidation of knowledge and skills that make effective their full inclusion in society. To this end, collaboration mechanisms have been established between a public administration, the Ministry of Inclusion, a private company, and a social entity, so that it is possible to facilitate their real and effective access to the labour market of the beneficiaries in conditions of dignity, providing social support.
The Program began in Extremadura on August 26, 2024 and currently serves 15 Malian migrants who come from a Care, Emergency and Referral Center (CAED of Carabanchel).
Accompanied by representatives of this NGO in Extremadura, the government delegate recalled that the average stay in Spain of the boys is 6 months, and all have subsidiary protection that allows them to have a work contract. With these requirements they were selected by a private company in the energy sector to participate and work in two locations in Extremadura: Almaraz and Torrecillas de la Tiesa.
After acquiring knowledge in labor risks and a preliminary training phase in the Almaraz photovoltaic plant, it is expected that in early October they will be transferred to Torrecillas de la Tiesa to work in a photovoltaic plant as solar panel assemblers. In the Torrecilla project they will continue to be hired by the company for one year and will be accompanied by Accem.
