Spring in Extremadura has behaved in the average of the last years both in temperatures and in rainfall
The delegate of the State Meteorological Agency has pointed out that the last quarter has been normal both for the rainfall recorded in the region, and in the temperatures.
Precipitation
The average rainfall for the entire region during the spring has been: 176.7 litres/m², being slightly higher than the reference value for this quarter: 148.9 litres/m². We have therefore had, and on average for all of Extremadura, a surplus of 27.8 liters/m². That is, in this quarter the rainfall represented 119% of the reference value.
The December-January-February quarter was the 14th wettest of the reference period (1991-2020), in Extremadura.
The balance of accumulated rainfall during the hydrological year (from October-2023 to May-2024) has been classified as very humid. An average of 647.8 litres/m² has been recorded, the reference being 528.1 litres/m², that is, the rainfall recorded in the aforementioned period has resulted in a surplus of 119.7 litres/m². The precipitation of what we have been in the hydrological year 2023-2024 has therefore accounted for 123% of the reference value.
Temperatures
In Extremadura, the average temperature for the March-April-May quarter of 2024 was: 15.5ºC, while the average reference temperature is: 15.0ºC, which means that we have had a positive anomaly of 0.5ºC with respect to the average value that allows us to classify this quarter as normal in terms of temperatures.
The March-April-May quarter was the 14th warmest quarter of the reference period (1991-2020), or the 18th coolest quarter of that period.
Summer forecast
For the months of June-July-August in Extremadura:
- There is a greater probability that the average temperature of the quarter will be higher than the reference values.
- There is a higher probability that the cumulative precipitation of the quarter is lower than the reference values.
