The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, participated today in the General Assembly of the Extremadura Association of Relatives of Patients Affected by Leukaemia and Other Pathologies (AFAL) where he highlighted the important work of this entity to guarantee help and care for relatives and people affected by these diseases.
Quintana has made these statements during her participation in the XXIX AFAL Assembly where she has valued the work carried out by this entity since its inception in 1995. “The long treatments and, in many cases, the need to travel outside our region to receive specialized medical care, are a huge burden. AFAL has been there to ease this burden, providing assistance and moral support to those who need it most,” he said.
As an example of this work, the government delegate recalled the almost 4,100 patients with their companions who have been treated since the creation of the Company Program, which funds the Extremadura Health Service. A pioneering program in Spain, which was born in 2004 with the purpose of providing service and care to patients and families who have to receive treatment outside their city of residence.
“Therefore I can only tell you that the work you do is not only admirable, but also indispensable. We know that these diseases affect not only the physical health of those who suffer from them, but also the emotional and economic stability of their families,” said Quintana.
In his speech, he also recalled the importance of continuing to move forward jointly and with the collaboration of the administrations. In this regard, it has indicated that, within the scope of State competences, they have the unconditional support of the Government in this task. “Together, we will continue to work so that no family has to face alone the challenges that these diseases impose. To try to continue promoting research and the advancement of medicine in the field of malignant haematological diseases”.
