The government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, has highlighted the work of the Civil Guard in sustaining the current social and democratic state as a guarantee of the model of egalitarian, diverse and plural coexistence “that enriches Spain so much”. Quintana has made these demonstrations during her speech at the events commemorating the 180th anniversary of the founding of the Civil Guard that have taken place in Badajoz.
The government delegate said that if anything has characterized the Benemérita in her career, it has been her ability to adapt to the social reality in which she carries out her mission. “We are currently in one of those moments in which the Civil Guard is in full transformation to adapt to the new security requirements.” A task for which there is a firm commitment of support from the Government of Spain in the responsibility of providing the resources, training and environment necessary for it to fulfill its responsibilities. “For this we dedicate all our efforts; increasing the staff, improving salaries, providing more and better means to promote the continuous training of its members,” he said.
In this regard, Quintana has recalled that, in a region such as Extremadura, with an extension of 41,000 square kilometers, the deployment of the Civil Guard in Extremadura is perfectly adapted to the reality of a region that needs security for its development. “Without security there is no progress possible and the fight against depopulation needs security. We cannot ask people to decide to live in rural areas if we cannot guarantee their safety,” he said.
Finally, the government delegate wanted to recall that, in essence, the Civil Guard is a security force that, in addition to fulfilling its mission with extraordinary diligence, “embodies and transmits the most solid values of our society.”
