The winter in Extremadura has been humid and very warm
The delegate of the State Meteorological Agency has pointed out that the last quarter has been humid in terms of rainfall recorded in the region and the fourth warmest in temperatures of the reference period (1991-2020).
Precipitation
The average rainfall for the entire region during the winter has been: 228.2 litres/m², being higher than the reference value for this quarter: 156.3 litres/m². We have therefore had, and on average for the whole of Extremadura, a significant surplus of 71.9 liters/m². In other words, in this quarter the rainfall represented 146% of the reference value.
The December-January-February quarter was the 9th wettest of the reference period (1991-2020), in Extremadura.
The balance of accumulated rainfall during the hydrological year (from October-2023 to February-2024) has also been classified as humid. An average of 474.0 litres/m² has been recorded, the reference being 318.6 litres/m², that is, the rainfall recorded in the aforementioned period has meant a surplus of 155.4 litres/m². The precipitation of what we have been in the hydrological year 2023-2024 has therefore accounted for 149% of the reference value.
Temperatures
In Extremadura, the average temperature of the quarter December-January-February 2022-23 has been: 101º C, while the average reference temperature is: 8.6ºC, which means that we have had a positive anomaly of 1.5ºC with respect to the average value that allows us to classify this quarter as very warm in terms of temperatures.
The December-January-February quarter was the 2nd warmest of the reference period (1991-2020).
Spring forecast
For the months of March-April-May in Extremadura:
- There is a higher probability that the average temperature of the quarter warmer than the reference values.
- There is a greater chance that the cumulative rainfall of the April, May-June quarter will be greater than the reference values.
