November 6, 2023. The government delegate in Extremadura, Francisco Mendoza, participated today in the award of medals to Civil Merit, which this year fell to the delegate of Defense in Extremadura, Jesús Caballero, the lieutenant colonel of the BIEM1 of the UME, Alberto Modino Iturralde and the soldier assigned to the Infantry Regiment Saboya 6 of the Extremadura Brigade XI Fermin Pilar Rubio.
The government delegate congratulated the honorees, all members of the Armed Forces, and highlighted the concept of a culture of defense “that allows citizens in general to know better and assume the role that for national security belongs to all of us but particularly the role that members of the Armed Forces play for the protection of citizens against very heterogeneous risks and dangers.”
“Today, the concept of national security is not defended exclusively by providing a military force that preserves our borders and territorial integrity,” he said, “Citizens are also defended and protected by acting against emergencies such as fires or floods or health crises such as the one we have suffered globally.
“Or by assigning military units to peace missions that help prevent war conflicts between other countries with the certainty of defending peace abroad, which helps to defend a safer and also peaceful Spain,” said the government delegate, who took advantage of this reference to express his best wishes to Brigadier General Extremadura and the Extremadura contingent, who will travel to the border between Lebanon and the State of Israel.
For Mendoza, the event held today is an example of the extension of the culture of defense. “Today we have carried out the formal act of awarding civil merit decorations to the people of three soldiers, three soldiers, who besides being prepared for war are also willing to protect us in time of peace. With his work and laboriousness as the Regulation of the Order of Civil Merit says, with exemplary actions as also mentioned in it, but above all with his personal attitude, with the spirit of sacrifice and vocation of service that characterizes the members of our Armed Forces,” he concluded.
Merits
At the event, the Delegate of Defense in Extremadura, Jesús Caballero Calzad, was decorated for the effectiveness in the development of his functions, showing absolute availability and participating in coordination and collaboration with the Delegation of the Government and public administrations of the region; the Lieutenant Colonel of the BIEM1, Alberto Modino Iturralde, for the intervention of that brigade in multiple fires that took place in mid-July in Extremadura where the brigade was deployed de facto among all the fires that devastated the province of Cáceres and the military intervention of the Brigade Extremadura.
