The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has received the construction works of the Museum of Colonization Peoples in Valdelacalzada, Badajoz. The works have involved an investment of 1,182,221.84 euros, financed entirely by Mitma, through the General Secretariat of Urban Agenda and Housing, through the Architectural Rehabilitation Program managed by the General Directorate of Urban Agenda and Architecture.
Museum of the Peoples of Colonization
The creation of the Museum of the Peoples of Colonization will allow to know and understand the history of some conquering peoples, the transformation of a territory by the process of colonization that was based on irrigated agriculture as the main activity.
Understanding the second half of the 20th century in our country implies knowing the reality of these colonization towns, which must be integrated into a rural development framework, protecting and disseminating the value of these towns (more than 290) spread throughout Spanish territory.
The Museum of the Peoples of Colonization aims not only to transmit technical concepts of the process experienced in the post-war years, but also to ensure that the values and attitudes that it assumes are shared by the public that visits it.
Description of the works
The Building that is the object of the performance is an old cinema and its annexes, located in the C/ de la Puebla nº 40 and 42, one of the main streets of the town.
The decision to configure the museum in the area of the annexes, leaving the nave for the service area, allows these new buildings to be presented as one more of the bodies that are attached to the initial volume of what was a primitive cinema.
In the drafting of the museographic project, it became clear the need to increase the exhibition area due to the content of one of the sections (the Badajoz Plan and the families of the settlers) that forms the museum.
Faced with this need, it was decided to allocate the surface of the garage on the ground floor as museum offices.
Architectural and 1.5% Cultural Rehabilitation Program
This action demonstrates the commitment of the Government in the protection and safeguarding of the Spanish Cultural Heritage and is carried out within the framework of the Architectural Heritage Rehabilitation Program, which consists of the execution of relevant works of rehabilitation of the Spanish architectural heritage and provision of public facilities with the budgets of the Ministry.
In these cases, Mitma acts as the contracting body for the works, allocating an investment in the year 2022 of more than 24 million euros to this Program, with actions throughout the territory.
On the other hand, the Ministry also finances another significant number of rehabilitation actions through the 1.5% Cultural Program, which is one of the instruments of the General Administration of the State to respond to the constitutional mandate by which the Public Authorities must guarantee the conservation and promote the enrichment of the historical, cultural and artistic heritage of the peoples of Spain and the goods that make up it.
Following the establishment of the new competitive competition procedure, in the VII Partnership Agreement between the former Ministries of Development and of Education, Culture and Sports, there are already four published calls for aid.
The last one, published in the BOE of 16/01/20, has meant a maximum contribution from the Mitma of 61,000,000 €.
On the other hand, with the signing last December of the VIII Collaboration Agreement between the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda and the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the percentage has been raised from 1.5 to 2 percent for the Program of granting aid for actions of conservation or enrichment of the Spanish Historical Heritage for the next call that is published.
