- More than 7,000 National Police officers serve in the C.Valenciana
- Crime in the Valencian Community fell by 0.4% and 3.6% in the city of Valencia in the last year
The Delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has presided over the commemoration of the Patron Day of the National Police together with the Superior Chief of Police in the Valencian Community, Carlos Gajero. In this event, Bernabé stressed that “the Government of Spain will continue to provide the National Police with more means, training and decent working conditions”.
Currently, more than 7,000 agents of the National Police serve in the Valencian Community, which is about 13% more than in 2018. In the province of Valencia, there are more than 4,000 agents, more than 10% in relation to 2018. In addition, according to the data provided by Barnabas, “there is an increasingly egalitarian presence: one in five police officers is a woman, leading, patrolling and demonstrating that equality strengthens the entire institution.”
In addition, he added, “the vocation of service, dedication and example” of the National Police has favored, among other issues, that “total crime in the city of Valencia has fallen by 3.6% in the last year, a reduction greater than in the province (–3.2%) and in the Valencian Community (–0.4%)”.
Barnabas has also praised “the largest police deployment in recent history”, that of the dana. This operation involved about 5,000 agents who completed more than 12,800 missions along with the rest of the bodies and emergency services. “Each of their jobs was a helping hand for hundreds, for thousands of families who were suffering,” he said.
But the work of the National Police “is constant and faces tremendous challenges ahead of us.” In a society “that lives exhausted from so much polarization, from so many fake news, it is more important than ever the main challenge that is to preserve democracy. And for that the National Police has always been at the forefront,” added Bernabé.
Zapadores: a more modern and efficient police complex
The delegate also referred to the “investment effort of the Government” aimed at improving the infrastructures of the State Security Forces and Corps. In this regard, he has highlighted the integral rehabilitation of the Zapadores de València Police Complex. The first phase “of this most modern and efficient police complex” was presented last June by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska. The completion of the second phase is planned for the first half of next year.
The reform, implemented by the Society of Penitentiary and State Security Infrastructures and Equipment (SIEPSE), has a budget of 30 million euros, one of the largest investments contemplated in the Infrastructure Plan for State Security (2019-2025).
