The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has presented, together with the Superior Chief of Police in the Valencian Community, Carlos Gajero, the device of Operation Summer 2024. In the Valencian Community, the operation will be reinforced by 596 National Police and Civil Guard agents between the three provinces. Operation Summer is made up of these reinforcements plus the troops assigned to the citizen security units. In total, in the Valencian Community, 11,823 troops will participate in this special operation, among which they are part of the citizen security staff of the National Police and Civil Guard and their reinforcements.
In the case of the province of Valencia, the National Police will allocate to Operation Summer about 2,000 troops and the Civil Guard more than 5,300 agents to the device.
The ‘Operation Summer’ responds to the condition of Spain, and of the Valencian Community as one of the main tourist destinations. In this regard, the delegate said, “the summer season represents a key moment for the sector,” which is why “police operations are planned aimed at providing effective protection and security, in general, in the enjoyment of all activities linked to tourism”. And all this, combined with the measures corresponding to the current reinforced Level 4 of anti-terrorist alert established in application of the Plan of Prevention, Protection and Response against Terrorism. The ultimate goal is to “increase citizen security in tourist areas to minimize the risks associated with common crime and cybercrime and to deal more quickly and effectively with victims.”
To this end, they will “increase surveillance and preventive control in urban and interurban communication routes, stations, ports, airports, hotels, beaches and campsites, and in general those places and spaces that represent a great concentration of people, such as popular festivals and music festivals.”
Comprehensive plan
The Ministry of the Interior’s summer plan also includes the Special Traffic Operations Campaign of summer 2025 that promotes the DGT to improve road safety levels during the summer months, in which accident accidents usually rebound.
As in previous years, the DGT has scheduled special traffic operations on weekends and bridges, especially on summer departure and return dates. It has also planned special road safety campaigns in connection with the control of alcohol and drugs, motorcycles, vans, speed, as well as distraction at the wheel.
With regard to Operation Paso del Angolo 2025, a Spanish-Moroccan device coordinated in Spain by the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies, it will begin on June 15 and will continue until September 15 to channel the outward and return transit of citizens of Maghreb origin who travel from various countries of Europe to North Africa during the summer season.
