The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has attended the World Water Day Conference organized by the Federation of Irrigation Communities of the Valencian Community (FECOREVA).
In this event, Bernabé highlighted “the importance of water and its uses for the Valencian Community”. For this reason, the Government of Spain “will continue to protect it in a comprehensive and circular way and will continue to modernize and digitize its uses”. For the Government of Spain - said Bernabé - "water is not an arrogant element for political profitability in the face of future challenges that admit neither discussion nor negationism." These challenges, he has enumerated, are “global warming, the state of the oceans and extreme weather phenomena such as the damage that has affected the irrigators so much”.
The delegate stressed that “the Government’s commitment to agricultural reconstruction after the dana has materialized in figures.” In fact, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will invest €115.6M in the irrigating communities. In addition, through the State Society of Agrarian Infrastructures (SEIASA) belonging to the Ministry, it is acting in 136 communities of irrigators and irrigation entities, while actively working in 27 communities of irrigators, with an investment of € 21.2 million. At the moment, said Bernabé, the performances in 3 communities of irrigators (Chiva, Alginet and Alzira) have already been completed. In addition, the SEIASA allocates about 89M€ in the actions of affected agricultural roads.
The delegate also recalled that “the investment made by the Ministry of Agriculture in the Valencian Community for the modernization of irrigation comprises 12.3% of the national total, with a total of € 277.95M”. At the moment, 78 modernization actions have already been completed for 30 irrigant communities with a modernized area of about 54,000 hectares from which about 56,000 irrigants have benefited.
