The winter road plan 2024-2025 has 62 snow-removing machines and 6,785 tons of fluxes (sodium chloride and calcium chloride) in solid form or in brine - dissolved in water - for the roads of the Valencian Community.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility through the Road Demarcation launched this campaign on November 1 in the State Road Network, which will be operational until the end of April 2025.
The delegate has stated that the objective of the plan is to maintain in winter the roads of the State Road Network “in the best possible conditions of comfort, safety and fluidity, when they are affected by snow or ice problems”, according to the Service Levels set for each of the sections of the network.
The State Road Network reaches 1,909 kilometers in the Valencian Community. Of these, 57% are composed of high-capacity roads, 43% are conventional roads and 28% are located at more than 400 meters of altitude, with peaks above 1,000 meters.
Bernabé stressed that “the plan prioritizes attention to highways, highways and highways with greater density, access roads to provincial capitals and roads to populations with more than 20,000 inhabitants”.
In addition, within the winter road operations, it is planned to carry out preventive and curative treatments in situations of low temperatures and in case of snowfall on the roads affected by these phenomena. The main objectives are to prevent the formation of ice sheets on the roads when frost is expected, to inform road users of any incidents sufficiently in advance and, in case of snowfall, to remove snow to minimise traffic disturbances as a result.
Material resources for the Valencian Community
The road plan deploys 61 snow-removing machines in the Comunitat Valenciana. By province: Castellón will have 18 snow removal machines, Valencia will have 26 and Alicante, 17. There is also an emergency parking in service on the A-3, at the height of El Rebollar, with capacity for 476 seats for heavy vehicles.
For its part, the 6,785 founding tons are distributed in 17 warehouses and 19 silos distributed among the three provinces. To this is added 6 brine manufacturing plants, two of them in Castellón and four in Alicante. The brine storage capacity is 155,000 liters in the province of Castellón, 670,000 liters in the province of Valencia and 228,000 liters in the province of Alicante. The total capacity is 1,053,000 liters of brine.
