The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, visited this morning, together with the president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar, Miguel Polo, the restoration works of the Girona River in the municipality of Ondara (Alicante), where she said that “it is an example of the work of the Spanish Government, of the realities, the facts and the investment of about 12 million euros per year that invests in the regeneration of the rivers of the Valencian Community”.
The delegate explained that “more than 2 million euros have been invested in recovering the Girona River” and added that “further south, on the Gorgos River, another two million euros have also been invested”. The work on the Girona River has consisted of planting indigenous species and eliminating invasive species, which affect indigenous biodiversity and cause harvests of reeds and excess vegetation in the case of waterways, such as that of 2007.
Bernabé has insisted that the current investment of 12 million per year of the Government of Spain, “contrasts greatly with those made by previous governments, which only invested two million per year in river regeneration”.
“The regeneration of our rivers means an optimization of our water resources, an effort and a work to guarantee the water that our Comunitat needs. And this government does politics of fact.”
On the other hand, Pilar Bernabé also referred to the commission, which convened the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ,) on water control measures in the Turia River, “necessary to guarantee the supply to the entire population and that affects the irrigators with a 15% drop in water use.”
Also, on the situation of lack of water in Teulada-Moraira, Bernabé pointed out that “when the now president of the Generalitat was president of the Diputación de Alicante he had the responsibility, as president of the Consortium of the Marina Alta and the Marina Baixa, to guarantee water for Teulada. And now he demands the government, when it is a municipal issue and that, in any case, he would go to his superior administration, which is the Provincial Council, of which he was president a year ago.” In this regard, the delegate recalled that “Teulada has resorted to the water of Xàbia for some time, due to a structural problem”.
