The device of Operation Passage of the Strait 2024 will guarantee the safety and fluidity of passengers and vehicles in the ports of Valencia and Alicante

The Government Delegation together with the State Security Forces and the Port Authorities of Valencia and Alicante deploys from today a wide device to guarantee the normal and fluid development of Operation Paso del Angolo (OPE), which takes place between today and September 15, and in which thousands of citizens of Maghreb origin cross Spain to go and return from their countries of origin during the summer period.

The delegate of the Government, Pilar Bernabé, has indicated that OPE 2024 contemplates “a wide security device that will ensure maximum fluidity in shipments and a health and social assistance device to meet the needs of citizens in transit”. Bernabé added that this operation “has a very important weight in the Valencian Community through the ports of València and especially Alicante, since it hosts 3% of the displacements that are carried out nationally”. In OPE 2023, more than 64,300 passengers and 15,730 vehicles crossed the strait between Alicante and Africa in the three months of the operation; while from the port of Valencia they crossed 30,000 people and about 8,000 vehicles.

The delegate added that it is “an operation that we know of since it is repeated every year and all the mechanisms of the State are in place so that this OPE 2024 is calm and does not generate an impact especially on the traffic that will be given on the roads through which it transits or in the ports”

Bernabé pointed out that for months “we have been working with the General Directorate of Civil Protection of the Ministry of the Interior and DGT to ensure the proper functioning of all the services provided”. In addition, there will be rest areas in the Marina with translators and advice from 8 am to 10 pm.

The Plan also sets the dates that are expected to be critical due to the massive influx of vehicles and passengers, both in the Departure Phase, from June 13 to August 15, and in the Return Phase, from July 15 to September 15. In this edition, the days marked as critical will be concentrated between June 14 and 16; between August 1 and 5; and between August 30 and September 1.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies recommends that North Africans who are going to travel in the near future plan their trip to the maximum with the objective that the shipowners involved in Operation Strait Pass 2024 offer the best possible service. Above all, on the critical dates of both the departure phase and the return phase.

The objective is to reduce the crowds of passengers and vehicles in the ports of embarkation, through a planned management of the arrival of passengers during the months in which the OPE 2024 takes place. To do this, it is very important to arrive at the port of embarkation with the ticket closed and purchased as early as possible, this being the best alternative for the traveler, since the passage can access the embarkation points in an orderly, fluid way and the waiting times in the port are reduced.
