The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has attended the release of the waters of the Acequia Real del Júcar in the azud of Antella, with which the beginning of the irrigation campaign is symbolically represented.
In this act that coincided with the declaration by the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation of an exceptional situation due to extraordinary drought throughout the Demarcation, the delegate stressed that “today it is more necessary than ever to be efficient with the use of water. The people of Valencia have spent centuries making responsible and efficient use, although now with technology we will be extreme care that guarantees water forever”.
In this regard, he recalled that the Government of Spain “has spent years investing many millions in irrigation communities to modernize irrigation systems.” Thus, to the Royal Council of Júcar, the Government has allocated 36.25 million euros through the four actions being carried out by the public company SEIASA. Of these works covering more than 1,000 hectares, more than 3,000 irrigators will benefit.
Bernabé stressed that “the commitment of the Government of Spain to the Valencian irrigators is total”. “The investments that the Valencian Community needs are being made hand in hand with the irrigation communities in a fluid dialogue, which is always more beneficial than confrontation and partisanship,” he added.
Bernabé stressed that “the Delegation and the Government of Spain will continue to work for the irrigators. We’ve done it and we’re going to keep doing it. With facts and with investments.”
