Barnabas: “The Government guarantees that all the agencies involved are coordinated and working on snow weather forecasts”

The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, held this morning a coordination meeting of the winter road plan 2023-2024, after which she affirmed that “it guarantees to the citizens that all the agencies involved are coordinated and working before the weather forecasts for the coming days”.

Patricia García, head of the Civil Protection Unit of Valencia, Javier Soler, head of the Conservation Service of the State Road Demarcation in the Valencian Community, María Pilar Funez, provincial head of Traffic of Valencia and Francisco Javier Sánchez-Ferragut, head of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard of Valencia took part in this meeting.

The device of the 2023-2024 winter road plan has 62 snow-removing machines, 6,785 tons of salt and 1,053,000 liters of brine from six manufacturing plants.

The protocol is integrated into the Procedure against the risk of snowfall of the Generalitat Valenciana and its objective, the delegate stressed, is “to establish the organization and procedures of action of the services of the General Administration of the State that are affected by snowfall in the Comunitat and that are going to be necessary to ensure road safety in the State Road Network”. In addition, Bernabé has assured that “all the troops are prepared and at the disposal of the Generalitat in case of emergency”.

The main actions carried out thanks to the road plan, said Pilar Bernabé, “are the prevention of the formation of ice plates on the roads through the spread of foundations; informing road users of any incident sufficiently in advance and the removal of snow, minimizing incidents in traffic”.

The delegate stressed that “the General Directorate of Traffic will maintain direct communications with the federations of carriers to warn and inform them if there is any risk of going out on the road”. To the citizens as a whole, Barnabas has recommended that “if there is snow, it is better not to go out. The photo may be beautiful, but the risk is high.”

The agencies involved in the protocol are the General Directorate of Traffic, the State Road Demarcation, Civil Guard, National Police, Military Emergency Unit, State Meteorology Agency, Valencian Agency for Security and Emergency Response of the Generalitat Valenciana, Civil Protection Units of the Government Delegation and the Red Cross.

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, through the Road Demarcation, launched this campaign on November 1 in the State Road Network and will be operational until April 30, 2023.

Christmas Campaign

Regarding the traffic balance during the Christmas campaign, Pilar Bernabé stated “that during the validity of the special Christmas traffic campaign there have been two fatal accidents in the Valencian Community, specifically in the province of Valencia, which have killed a total of two people”.
