The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, together with the mayor of Pego, Enrique Moll, has presided over the coordination meeting for the celebration of the Pego Carnival. Bernabé has detailed that it will have “a device composed of 90 Civil Guard troops, which will coordinate with the Local Police and the private security of the municipality”.
Likewise, the Government delegate has expressed the importance of “raising awareness of alcohol and drug consumption”, for which the Civil Guard will establish alcohol controls in the accesses to the municipality. In addition, a Violeta Point will also be installed in the municipality.
The event was also attended by the government's subdelegate in Alicante, Araceli Poblador; the Autonomous Secretary of Security and Emergencies of the Generalitat, José Mª Ángel; the General Director of Interior of the Generalitat, Salvador Almenar; those responsible for the Civil Guard of Pego and Calp, as well as the Local Police of Pego.
The festival, which was born in the mid-19th century, attracts about 10,000 visitors every year, doubling the number of inhabitants of the municipality.
