Today, January 24, the feast of San Francisco de Sales, patron saint of journalists, I want to congratulate all the professionals who work in the media of Ceuta.
The main purpose of the media is precisely to communicate objectively, inform, educate, transmit, entertain, form opinion, teach and also develop a critical spirit.
Your mission, which is not an easy task, is also important as a historical record, as an expression of society, as a development of knowledge and because it underpins the freedom of individuals and societies. Contemporary history cannot be written without taking into account the daily record of events made by the press.
Media development promotes freedom of expression and contributes to the strengthening of peace, sustainable development, human rights and the fight against poverty.
In order to consolidate a democratic rule of law, it is essential to have critical and well-informed audiences, where freedom of thought, expression and the right to information prevail, accountability, as well as the ethics and responsibility of media communicators vis-à-vis society.
Because a better informed society is always a freer society.
