· The government delegate in Catalonia participates in the presentation of the 39th CNP police promotion with a speech in which he points out that one of the greatest challenges will be to combat “hate crimes”
· Prieto stressed that, even with the competences of Catalonia, the National Police has many competences and “is just as important as in any other Community”
Barcelona, June 30, 2025.- The government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, spoke this morning at the presentation of the 39th police promotion that the National Police has organized in the police complex of the Zona Franca. In his speech, Prieto has highlighted the essential work of the body. “The National Police is as important in Catalonia as in any other Autonomous Community”, said after congratulating the 572 new agents who will join, after completing their practices, in the service in the province of Barcelona.
For the government delegate, among those challenges are two that for him are “the most alarming”: the attacks on women and the LGTBI collective. And he has called on new agents to fight against “hate speech and hate crime”. Regarding the first, male violence, Carlos Prieto recalled that so far this year around twenty women have been murdered in Spain by their partners or ex-partners. “It has been a particularly tragic month of June”, lamented the delegate while stressing as “the fight against male violence is a priority of the Government of Spain”.
Fighting hate speech
In the midst of Pride, and at a time when 20 years have passed since the adoption of the Equal Marriage Act, Prieto has warned that “even today we still see attacks on the LGTBI community” and they cannot be normalized. However, for Prieto one of the most pressing challenges he faces today is “the rise in hate speech and hate crime.”
