• The government delegate in Catalonia has visited the improvement of the Ovelletes roundabout, a key infrastructure to facilitate the connection between the BV-2002 and BV-2005 roads with the A-2 motorway in Sant Vicenç dels Horts
• This new work must allow greater traffic fluidity, more safety and a reduction in emissions in the passage of vehicles
Sant Vicenç dels Horts, May 22, 2025.- The government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, visited this Thursday the end of the work of the roundabout of the Ovelletes, located at the intersection between the BV-2002 and BV-2005 roads and with access to the branch of the A-2 motorway.
During his speech after the guided tour, Prieto stressed the importance of an “excellent three-way collaboration”, in reference to the City Council of Sant Vicenç dels Horts, the Provincial Council of Barcelona and the Ministry of Transport. This synergy, said the government delegate, “has allowed us to address a historical demand of the municipality”, improving connectivity with the main roads of the area. “We want this shared and collaborative model to be an example at all levels,” he added.
In this sense, for Prieto “public works represent not only construction, but also what it means afterwards, its result, which is the improvement of the quality of life of the citizens”.
“Humanizing the infrastructure must serve to move us better, to make the journeys shorter and to pollute less,” said Prieto.
Improvements in times and security
With the inauguration of the roundabout and the access branch to the A-2 motorway, regular users of the BV-2002 and BV-2005 roads, in the south of Sant Vicenç dels Horts, will gain with a tangible improvement in the travel time, decongesting, in peak hours, a road that has an average intensity of about 23,000 vehicles per day.
This decongestion also leads to a reduction in emissions, while there is a shorter waiting time and a more orderly circulation, which makes this infrastructure a contribution to sustainable development and quality of life in the municipality.
Road safety has also been improved, eliminating crossings at the level of conflict points that had turned this stretch into a critical point of congestion and accident in the south of Sant Vicenç dels Horts.
A great day for Sant Vicenç dels Horts
During the visit, guided by the manager of the Area of Intrasstructures and Territory of the Diputación de Barcelona Valentín Aceña, the government delegate was accompanied by the president of the Diputación de Barcelona, Lluïsa Moret, the mayor of Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Miguel Comino and the delegate president of the Area of Intrasstructures and Territory of the Diputación de Barcelona, Sergi Vallès.
The president of the Diputació de Barcelona, Lluïsa Moret, stressed that the execution of works such as this is "the example of what is meant by the relationship, complicity and real interinstitutional coordination with the will to improve the quality of life and well-being of people, citizens and citizens; improve daily life in territories, towns and cities".
The mayor of the municipality, Miguel Comino, has celebrated that “it is a great day because we finish some works that have come to improve the lives of thousands of people. Everyone remembers the queues that were formed, just a few months ago, in this very place. Now, with the finished works, the improvements are evident: mobility is more fluid and we gain in sustainability.”
Description of the work
The work that has been visited this Thursday consists of three clearly identifiable elements:
- A reconfiguration of the roundabout, while the diameter has been enlarged, additional lanes have been added and direct bypasses have been incorporated to eliminate traffic lights
- An infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, with a lower pass under the roundabout and a walkway over the Torrelles stream, guaranteeing segregated and safer itineraries
- A process of urbanization and drainage, with landscaping, new lighting and the adequacy of the drainage.
This work is part of the Road Network Improvement Plan of the Baix Llobregat.
