- It is a device to respond to the needs of the municipalities and exclusively intended for the consistories
- It is recommended in municipalities that invite their neighbors to prioritize financial contributions to entities working in the field
Barcelona, November 4, 2024.- The Government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, presided on Wednesday the session of the Consell d'Alcaldies del Vallès Occidental that was held in Terrassa and that addressed the support to the Valencian populations affected by the disaster caused by the DANA.
The session, in which the deputy delegate of the Government in Barcelona, Mari Carmen García-Calvillo, also participated, was also attended by the mayors of the municipalities of the region.
The Government delegate explained at the meeting that, in response to the needs expressed by many Catalan municipalities that are overwhelmed by the solidarity of their neighbors, a Logistics Center (CELOG) is being transported from the Government Delegation in Catalonia to store, order and catalog material.
LOGISTICS CENTER
The Logistics Centre set up by the Government delegation will be available exclusively to the municipalities that coordinate the solidarity movements of neighbours, entities, associations and companies in their municipalities and that, at this stage, have problems in continuing to supply material. Therefore, the following measures have been taken by the delegation:
The first has been to recommend in the municipalities that they invite their neighbors to prioritize economic donations to the social entities that work on the ground, for not collapsing the corridors to the Valencian Community.
The second is to offer them logistical advice on how to correctly package and order the material they have, to have an inventory and to be able to send it in an orderly manner - on the one hand by those who already have a direct receiver in Valencia and on the other hand by those who want to send it in the logistic center of the Delegation.
The material provided by the citizens in Catalonia will thus be catalogued and will be available to the National Center for Monitoring and Coordination of Emergencies (CENEM) of Civil Protection of the Government of Spain, which is the one who coordinates with the Valencian Generalitat and who knows what is needed, at what time, where and how to get it.
Likewise, the material will be made available to the personnel of the bodies of the Generalitat of Catalonia who work on the ground if they request it.
MINUTE OF SILENCE
During the day, the Council of Mayors approved an institutional declaration of support of the Vallès Occidental in the face of the devastating effects of the DANA in Valencia and made a minute of silence in memory of the victims.
For his part, the President of the Regional Council, Ignasi Giménez, has expressed “gratitude to the people of Valencia who have turned their attention to this crisis, providing all their solidarity”. He also highlighted “the role that the local world is taking at the moment, as has already happened with the pandemic or other crisis situations in which proximity is key”. He also assured “we have to be able to channel and organize the aid in times and in the form”.
