Nicanor Sen supports León’s candidacy to host the State Public Health Agency
Working meeting
April 11, 2024. As part of the round of meetings that began with the associative fabric of Castilla y León, the Government delegate, Nicanor Sen, held a meeting with the representatives of the College of Veterinarians of León, of ColproLeón -Association of Professional Colleges-, of SIVELE -Union of Veterinary Doctors of León - and of the Official College of Nursing of León.
At the epicentre of the meeting was the Leonese candidacy to host the headquarters of the State Public Health Agency. The representatives of the four organizations asked the delegate to defend and promote the León option in Madrid after the Ministry of Health reactivated the project.
This candidacy, as they have stressed, is based on “weighty reasons”, such as the prestige of the Veterinary Faculty, its University Hospital and the two faculties of Health Sciences located in the university campuses of León and Ponferrada.
“Logical and objective criteria that support the city of León so that the Government establishes an agency of this nature,” said the delegate. In addition, all those present have agreed, depopulation as a criterion “that must be weighty in the final decision”.
In this regard, Nicanor Sen has committed to transfer to the Ministry of Health the candidacy of León, a city framed in a province that has a solid veterinary sector and a sanitary fabric that enables it to host the State Public Health Agency.
The meeting has also allowed us to address issues of interest to these groups. The veterinary sector has highlighted the important work of these professionals within the framework of public health, within the close relationship between human, animal and environmental health. They have also conveyed to the delegate the need for the Ministry of Agriculture to promote a vaccine against Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHE).
