March 15, 2024.- The Subdelegate of the Government in Zamora, Ángel Blanco, held this Friday a meeting with mayors, mayors and councilors of some 25 municipalities of the province in order to address the situation of the agricultural sector and intensify the dialogue between the institutions to reconcile the demands of the field with the security of the citizens.
The objective of this meeting is to bring together positions between the different parties in order to avoid a repetition of the disturbances and to preserve citizen security.
Ángel Blanco recalled that the demonstrations in the camp began on January 30 in the province of Zamora and only three of them were carried out with the relevant prior communication to the Subdelegation. Specifically, the two developed on February 9 (in Zamora and Benavente) and today’s.
Regarding the unreported mobilizations, the subdelegate first stressed that most of the participants had behaved appropriately. However, it has insisted on the need to avoid possible conflicts in future demonstrations, for which it has called on municipal representatives to contribute to raising awareness to avoid risks both for the security of the general public and for the demonstrators themselves.
In this regard, Ángel Blanco has reiterated that the State Security Forces (FCSE) will continue to work with consistency and proportionality to ensure respect for public safety and road safety.
With this meeting, the Government Subdelegation complies with the request of these municipal representatives, who over the last week have formally requested to meet with the subdelegate.
The Sub-delegate has undertaken to submit to the Government Delegation in Castilla y León and to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the demands that farmers have made to the Sub-delegation. In addition, it has reiterated the willingness of the Government of Spain to listen and meet the demands of the sector.
On March 5, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, sent a letter to the European Commission, together with his French counterpart, Marc Fesneau, and which has been signed by 20 other Member States, in which he requests to approve as soon as possible the flexibilities of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to respond to the concerns of farmers and ranchers.
The meeting took place in the Subdelegation of the Government in Zamora and was also attended by the head of the Command of the Civil Guard of Zamora, Lieutenant Colonel Héctor David Pulido; Lieutenant Burrieza; the captain of the Post of Benavente, Roberto Pérez. and the Secretary of the Subdelegation, Carmen Fernández.
