Actions in heritage and energy efficiency
March 14, 2024.- The Government delegate in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, visited this Thursday in the town of Villafranca del Bierzo the investments that the National Executive is executing, amounting to 1.8 million euros, to which must be added another million European funds that the Government of Spain has transferred to the Regional Administration for the renovation of the emblematic Water Street of Villafranca.
The government delegate, accompanied by the mayor of the Bercian municipality, Anderson Batista, and the municipal corporation, has verified the progress of the restoration works that are being carried out in the church of Santiago with an investment by the Ministry of Culture of 411,500 euros. The works in this temple that in a few months will host one of the exhibitions of The Ages of Man began last February and aim to alleviate the relevant injuries presented by the building under the principle that any intervention must lead to the conservation of the work without transforming it.
This project includes cleaning and restoration actions; repair of roofs; implementation of ventilation and rainwater collection systems; improvement of electrical installation and lighting, or conditioning of the environment and improvement of accessibility, among others. “In short, a work that will contribute to the future conservation of this monument, key to the Leonese Romanesque and mark of Jacobean identity,” said Sen.
618.490 euros of the local PIREP
Likewise, the delegate has toured the Divina Pastora building, municipal units that are undergoing a complete energy rehabilitation thanks to the Program of Impulse to the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings for Local Entities (local PIREP) of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA), which has granted this City Council an aid of 618,490 euros for this purpose.
According to Sen, this program of the MITMA, the Local PIREP, since a call has also been made to promote the sustainable rehabilitation of the autonomous building park, “has involved an investment of the central government in the Community of 54.4 million euros in the 71 projects approved in the two lines convened between 2022 and 2023 from the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.” In the province of León, he explained, “there are 17 projects with an investment of 17.7 million and, more specifically, in the region of Bierzo, 4 projects (Villafranca, Congosto, Corullón and Torre del Bierzo) amounting to almost 1.5 million euros (1.43 M€)”.
“These actions aim to reduce, by at least 30%, the consumption of non-renewable primary energy and improve the accessibility of buildings, as well as the maintenance and environmental sustainability of all types of buildings for public use,” said the delegate.
On the other hand, the central government has also injected in this municipality 844,000 euros for the renovation of outdoor lighting facilities, a work that the City of Villafranca has just awarded. This investment is part of the DUS 5000 Program of the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, which aims to give a boost to Sustainable Urban Development in municipalities of demographic challenge through actions that constitute unique clean energy projects.
