The Government of Spain continues to take steps to improve access to the Soriano municipality of Cabrejas del Pinar from the national highway N-234
The BOE publishes the provisional approval of the project and initiates the public information file
March 5, 2024.- The Official State Gazette (BOE) gathers the announcement of the Government of Spain by which the provisional approval is published and orders the opening of the public information file of the project to improve the intersection at kilometric point 385,060 of the national highway N-234 in the municipality of Cabrejas del Pinar.
The City Council of this locality is the owner of the land that must be expropriated. The project is submitted to this public information process for a period of twenty working days from publication in the BOE.
The Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, will improve this access to Cabrejas del Pinar from the N-234 (Sagapun-Burgos) through the construction of a new intersection type roundabout game (commonly called ‘racket’). This new link will mean an investment by the central government that exceeds 1.2 million euros.
The aim of this action is to improve road safety and the protection of users in this particularly dangerous stretch. Currently, there are two intersections on the national road N-234 that give access to the town of Cabrejas del Pinar. Una de ellas es en la que va a actuar el Ministerio. It is the one located at the kilometric point 385,060 and allows to connect the N-234 with the provincial road SO-P-5033, which leads to the urban center. This access has central waiting lanes on the main track, although these only allow you to make the left turns. On the contrary, it lacks deceleration lanes to turn to the right, so access forces drivers to reduce the speed considerably on the main road before turning to the secondary road, with the consequent danger.
The other intersection is located just over 800 meters, at the kilometric point 384,280, and allows to directly connect the N-234 with the industrial estate of La Nava, on both sides of the national road. In this case, there are no central waiting lanes or zones of acceleration or deceleration to facilitate entry, which makes this section a dangerous zone for road safety, which is aggravated when this point is used as a passage zone, both for vehicles and for pedestrians.
The Government assumes the improvement of the intersection at kilometer 385,060 offering safe access to the town through a roundabout departure that will also allow to improve the fluidity of the circulation in that section.
To facilitate communication with the industrial estate of La Nava from this point, the future construction of two service roads on both sides of the road that will connect the new roundabout with the industrial area is planned. These roads, which will run parallel to the N-234, will be addressed through an agreement between the Junta de Castilla y León, the Diputación de Soria and the City of Cabrejas, which also provides the necessary land for the improvement of the intersection and the service roads.
This four-track project will allow a reordering of accesses that will improve road safety on this section of the N-234 road, which runs an average of 3,000 vehicles per day. The purpose is that, once all the works are finished (the new intersection and the vials that communicate with the industrial area), the direct accesses to the N-234 that currently exist in the polygon (one on each side of the road) can be closed, which are dangerous since they do not have waiting lanes.
