February 8, 2024.- The Executive President of the State Commercial Company Aguas de las Cuencas de España (ACUAES), María Rosa Cobo, and the President of the Hydrographic Confederation of the Douro, María Jesús Lafuente, met this morning at the headquarters of ACUAES in Madrid to analyze the situation of the actions exploited by the State Commercial Company and those currently being carried out in the Douro basin. Likewise, the financing formulas that allow the development of the purification and sanitation actions included in the ACUAES management order that are pending execution in the provinces of Zamora and Salamanca have been studied.
In addition, and due to its economic relevance, during the meeting, the current management model of the exploitation of the Alto and Bajo de Payuelos Canals, which concerns both agencies, and its relationship with other new infrastructures foreseen in the Douro Hydrological Plan pending execution, has been analyzed.
All this in the current context of the fight against climate change and energy transition provided for in article 19 of Law 7/2021, of 20 May, by virtue of which planning and hydrological management, for the purposes of its adaptation to climate change, will have as objectives to achieve water security for people, for the protection of biodiversity and for socio-economic activities, according to the hierarchy of uses, reducing exposure and vulnerability to climate change and increasing resilience.
