Nicanor Sen visits the facilities of Villahierro to learn about the reality of the penitentiary center
The prison has a total of 793 inmates and in recent months the number of staff has increased by almost half a hundred
December 20, 2023.- The government delegate in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, visited this Wednesday the facilities of the penitentiary center of Villahierro, located in the Leonese town of Manilla de las Mula.
A visit in which he was accompanied by the deputy delegate of the Government in León, Faustino Sánchez, and in which he held a working meeting with the director of the prison, Henar García Casado, as well as with those responsible for the different areas.
During the meeting, Sen was able to learn first-hand about the current situation of one of the seven penitentiary centers that are located in the territory and that currently has a total of 793 inmates.
A prison with 1,008 single cells and has seen in recent months an increase in its staff of about half a hundred staff, which has come to relieve the workload. In any case, from the penitentiary center they have stressed that it remains one of the main complaints of the staff.
One centre, an international reference for the programme of respect modules, which in recent months has been strengthening treatment programmes and activities, both therapeutic and formative, which is making it possible to reduce the incidence of internal conflicts.
In the same vein, the management wanted to highlight the numerous links that have been established in recent months with different institutions and entities of Leonese society, from NGOs through the Chamber of Commerce and the University of León, to work hand in hand and promote the reintegration of inmates.
Likewise, Sen was able to know the work that is being carried out with open doors from the prison, with the objective of making society know the prison environment and make progress in that integration.
