Fatal accidents were reduced by 16% this year on the roads of Valladolid

• Since January 1, 10 fatal accidents have been recorded in the province, 2 less than in the same period of 2022 • The main trigger factor is distraction at the wheel, followed by inadequate speed • At the beginning of the special operation of Traffic on the bridge of December, in none of the previous ones, this year, was recorded any fatal accident in the province of Valladolid

December 4, 2023.- The Subdelegate of the Government in Valladolid, Alicia Villar, has today presided over the Provincial Traffic and Road Safety Commission, accompanied by the provincial head of Traffic of Valladolid, Inmaculada Matías, in which the evolution of the accident on the roads of the province has been analyzed.

Since January 1 of this year, 10 fatal accidents have been recorded in the province, in which 11 people have died and 10 more have required hospitalization to treat their wounds. Compared to the same period of 2022, this year there have been 2 fatalities and 3 fewer deaths. This means a 16% reduction in fatal accidents and a 21% mortality break.

Distraction and speed

The main triggering factor is distraction at the wheel - 5 cases - followed by inadequate speed -2-. Only one of the deceased was not wearing a seat belt.

The exit of the road is the cause of most of these traffic accidents - in 7 cases. The rest are collisions and there was no run over.

Accidents on high-capacity roads have increased from 2 to 6 in the last year and the A-6, with 4 accidents, has recorded the largest number of them.

On the other hand, the percentage of vulnerable users - pedestrians, bicycles and motorcycles - has fallen from 36% to 27% in the reference period.

Surveillance

During this year 2023, the DGT has launched 10 surveillance campaigns in the province of Valladolid and it remains to develop the eleventh, from December 11 to 17, focused on the consumption of alcohol and drugs at the wheel, as was already done in August. Then, the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard of Valladolid practiced 2,543 alcohol tests, resulting in 29 positives, and 34 drugs, resulting in 8 positives.

The remaining campaigns have focused this year on speed, the use of restraint and safety systems, distractions, vehicle conditions, trucks and buses, school transportation, motorcycles and vulnerable users.

Special Operations

On the point of starting the special Traffic operation on the December bridge, during this year, the DGT has launched seven more special operations, in holiday periods and other bridges, and in none of them was recorded any fatal accident in the province of Valladolid.
