35 years of the woman in the Civil Guard
Throughout these years, female civil guards have been able to break down obstacles to show that they can perform the same work and under the same conditions as men.
From those midwives, widows and orphans of the Corps who wore the uniform, but did not carry weapons and began to serve in the middle of the last century, the 60 members of the first and only promotion of midwives were transferred in 1987 to give way in 1988 to the first 197 civil guards. Currently, there are 7500 female civil guards who are part of the Institution.
To date, the women in the Civil Guard are present in practically all specialties: citizen security, judicial police, traffic, TEDAX, SEPRONA, GAR, GRS, air service, mountain service, cinological service… and soon a civil guard will finish the GEAS specialist course.
In addition, they are also present at the international level as liaison officers in attachés, forming part of the security of Spanish embassies and participating in missions of peace and military cooperation.
The women in the Civil Guard have achieved the employment of lieutenant colonel on the officer scale, senior non-commissioned officer on the non-commissioned officer scale and Corporal 1º on the line and guard scale. In the same way, they occupy positions of great responsibility under the command of different units and three Commandences.
One of the main challenges of the Institution is to continue incorporating female talent as necessary to give the best attention to citizenship. Currently, the percentage of women in the Civil Guard is 9.47%, a percentage that increases year after year. In the latest calls for access to the Civil Guard, there are 30% of female candidates who want to be part of the Institution.
Women in the Lion Command
Currently, the Civil Guard Command in León serves 86 women distributed throughout the province in different units and specialties such as citizen security, judicial police, weapons and explosives intervention, fiscal detachment and borders, SEPRONA. The women in the Lion Command, whose percentage is 9.6%, have achieved the employment of captain in the officers’ scale, brigade in the non-commissioned officers’ scale and corporal 1º in the ropes and guards’ scale. In the same way they occupy positions of great responsibility being in command of different units.
The first woman destined to the province of León was in the year 1990, specifically to the Post of Boñar, and more women were incorporated throughout these years until reaching the current figure. On the contrary, the most modern civil guard was integrated last September to the staff of the Post of Truchas, where it performs citizen security functions
