Virginia Barcones defends the “firm” bet of the Government to boost the tourist potential of Castilla y León
The Government of Spain has mobilized 208 million euros for the improvement of tourist destinations
November 19, 2023.- The delegate of the Government in Castilla y León, Virginia Barcones, visited this Sunday the International Tourism Fair (INTUR) in which she has highlighted the strength of inland tourism, as well as its ability to continue growing and strengthen its economic strength.
A sector that, said Barcones, is an extremely important part for the economic development of the Community and whose growth goes through seasonalizing the offer, betting on professionalization, continuing to generate quality employment, as well as developing the great potential of Castilla y León.
Objectives with which, he continued, the Government of Spain is aligned, which has demonstrated its “firm and clear” commitment to domestic tourism.
“The Government of Spain from the first moment was clear that tourism policy should not only be sun and beach, but that there is a great potential in interior tourism. A stink that has materialized with important resources that are destined to improve the quality of the tourist offer.”
In this regard, Barcones recalled the Tourist Sustainability Plan in Destination that in total will mobilize 123 million euros allowing the development of 50 sustainability projects “to value tourist destinations and continue generating wealth”.
In addition, he highlighted the 208 million euros that the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has mobilized to improve tourist destinations and enhance tourism through the protection, maintenance or rehabilitation of Goods of Cultural Interest.
Along with this, the investment of 11 million to promote the Xacobea Route as it passes through Castilla y León, the 10 million euros for the improvement of the Paradores network and the 9 million euros that have been allocated for the three heritage cities.
To this are added the investments that will reach Castilla y León in the coming months within the framework of the Spain Tourism Experience, to which, Barcones continues, numerous projects of the Community have been presented that can benefit from the 20 million foreseen.
“Tourism still has a lot to say and a lot of capacity to continue growing in our territory. And the government is aware of that. Therefore, we are going to continue working to move forward on this path that will strengthen the economy of Castilla y León,” said Barcones.
Accompanied by Alicia Villar, the deputy delegate of the Government of Valladolid, Barcones has made a tour of all the tourist resorts of the different provinces of the Community in which she was able to record the wide and varied catalogue of possibilities offered to the visitor, “always under the common denominator of quality”.
In this regard, Barcones was satisfied with the capacity for recovery demonstrated by tourism, exceeding the indicators prior to the pandemic and with historical figures in tourism arrival, as demonstrated by the increase so far this year in the number of travelers and overnight stays by 11% and spending per tourist by 26%.
“Castilla y León has managed to maintain its strength and leadership in domestic tourism with a model to be followed by other territories. These figures encourage us to continue working to target the tourism sector as an engine of economic growth in our Community.”
