October 13, 2023.- The second phase of the Aid to the Most Needy Plan 2023 distributes more than 100,000 kilos of food in the province of Segovia.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, through the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEGA), launches the second phase of the European Aid Fund for the Most Disadvantaged People (FEAD) 2022 Programme,
In total, in the province there are 23 charities participating in this second phase, whose distribution is commissioned by the Red Cross and the Food Bank.
The government’s deputy delegate, Marian Rueda, puts 2,575 people who will benefit from the program in this second phase of this year’s plan.
Marian Rueda has visited the facilities where the Food Bank stores the products until their distribution.
The foods that are distributed at this stage are white rice, cooked beans, cooked chickpeas, canned tuna, preserved fruit, sardine preserves, meat preserves, spaghetti, noodles, fried tomato, biscuits, vegetable macedonia, soluble cocoa, childish fruit and chicken tarrites.
In total, the value of the products that will be distributed in this phase amounts to 180,900 euros.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, through the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEGA), develops the ‘Food Aid Programme 2023 for the most disadvantaged people’, with which food is distributed in two phases. The first of these took place between the months of April and May. The second and final phase takes place during this month and next month, with 36 million kilos/liters of food being distributed free of charge nationwide.
This amount represents 71 percent of the total to be distributed in the 2023 program, as the other 29 percent was delivered in the month of April. This 2023 program has involved the purchase of food through a public tender process worth 88,571,420 euros, of which 64.89 million euros belong to this second phase.
The products will be distributed throughout Spain through the Spanish Federation of Food Banks and the Red Cross. These two entities will distribute the food among some 5,230 partner delivery organizations that, at the national level, participate in the program, so that the more than 1.26 million final beneficiaries.
This year 2023 is the last year in which the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food participates in the implementation of the plans of the food aid program for the most disadvantaged people of the European Union, in which it participates since 1987 without interruption.
From 2024, the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, and the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, will be the competent ministries to articulate this model of aid in Spain. The new actions will be carried out under the ‘Basic Material Assistance Program ESF+ 2021-2027’, and the managing authority will be the support unit of the European Social Fund and the intermediate bodies the autonomous communities.
CASTILE AND LEON
In Castilla y León it should be noted that in this second phase more than 1.2 million kilos are going to be distributed. In the first phase 544,663 Kg were distributed. In total between the first and second phases, almost 2 million kilos of food will be distributed in Castilla y León. In particular 1.831.059 kg.
The value of the food of this second phase amounts to 2,321,198 euros. In the first phase the economic value of the food amounted to 905,601 euros. The total amount of food purchased between the first and second phases for distribution in Castilla y León is 3,226,799 euros.
With these foods of this second phase, the number of beneficiaries in Castilla y León will amount to 40,025 people who are in a situation of social or economic dependence.
