19 September 2023.- Social Security registered 2,657,187 foreign affiliates in August, once seasonality and calendar effect were discounted. They account for 42,266 more affiliates than in July. Since February 2020, before the impact of the pandemic, the system has recorded an increase of more than 467,766 workers from other countries.
In August, this figure represents 12.8% of the total number of Social Security participants in seasonally adjusted terms.
In Castilla y León the number of foreigners affiliated in average terms to the Social Security has reached 80,323 this August.
Average membership
In average terms and without seasonalizing, that is, in the original series, Social Security registered 2,676,528 foreign affiliates this month, which means 18,712 affiliates less than in July. Of the total, 876,938 workers come from European Union countries (32.8%) and 1,799,590 from third countries (the remaining 67.2%). The largest groups of employed are from Romania (335,291), Morocco (302,934), Italy (182,700), Colombia (170,804) and Venezuela (145,461). Of the total, 55.5% are men, while 44.5% are women.
In the last twelve months, the average affiliation of foreign workers has grown by 9.8%, that is, it has added 239,037 employees.
In Castilla y León, the data without seasonalization (80,323) represents a monthly variation of 0.19% and an annual variation of 11.97. Of this total, 40.43% (32,471) are workers from European Union countries. Of these, the most numerous groups are those from Romania (14,123), Bulgaria (9,522) and Portugal (4,587). Of the workers from countries outside the European Union (47,853), the most numerous are those from Morocco (10,129), Colombia (6,994) and Venezuela (4,700).
Of the total number of foreign affiliates in Castilla y León, 54.58% (43,838) are men and 45.42% (36,485) are women.
66,117 Ukrainian affiliates
Among other nationalities, there are 66,117 affiliates from Ukraine. This is 18,858 more than in January 2022, when the war had not yet begun, which represents a growth of 40%.
The majority of workers from Ukraine, about 87.4%, are in the General System (they are salaried) and 12.5% are self-employed.
Within Castile and Leon, the number of workers coming from Ukraine stood at 1.121 in August.
Regimes and sectors
Overall, 83.9 per cent of foreign affiliates are covered by the General System and account for 2,245,362. In August, most sectors of this regime increased. The most occupied were Household Activities (5.9%) Water Supply (1.6%) and Health Activities (1.6%). On the other hand, the number of participants decreased, mainly in Agriculture (-3.2%), Public Administration (2.4%) and Construction (2%). It also decreased in the Special Agrarian System (-3.9%) and in the Home System (-1.1%).
For its part, the Autonomous System counted 425,153 foreign affiliates. Of the total number of self-employed, 14.9% came from China, 10.9% from Romania and 9% from Italy.
As for the division into regimes of foreign workers in Castilla y León, 88.25% (70.889) come under the General Regime and the remaining 11.75% (9.434) come under the Autonomous Regime.
