September 18, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Burgos, Pedro de la Fuente, presided this morning a meeting with all the heads of the agencies belonging to the General Administration of the State (AGE) to which the situation and safety of the seasonal workers are responsible during the harvest campaign.
The meeting held in the Subdelegation of the Government was attended by the Lieutenant Colonel Chief of the Command in Burgos, Alfonso Martín; the Chief Provincial Operative Commissioner of the Provincial Commissariat of Burgos, Benito Martínez; the Chief Captain of the Company of the Civil Guard in Aranda de Duero, José Enrique Muñoz Martínez; and the Chief Inspector of the Local Commissariat of National Police in Aranda de Duero, Joaquín Gomá. accompanied by other officers of both bodies; the provincial director of the General Treasury of Social Security and the National Institute of Social Security, Olga Hernando, the head of the Labour Inspection, Betina Ruiz; the head of the Labour and Immigration Unit, Elena Ruiz, the head of the Immigration Department of the Subdelegation, Manuel Vivar, and the head of the Unit against Gender Violence, Begoña Fernández.
De la Fuente highlighted “the need not to lower the guard despite the notable decrease in irregularities detected in recent years and to analyze the improvements or incidents of the last campaign, as well as the forecast of problems in the season that is developing now.”
The meeting proposed measures to ensure that all dealers, normally citizens in unfavourable situations with problems with the language and occasionally accompanied by minors, can count on the State Security Forces and other competent bodies, with their vigilance and access to them in the event of an incident.
The Government’s deputy delegate has also stressed the need for coordination between the different agencies and to make “as many efforts as necessary” to prevent abuses or any kind of irregularity.
Finally, he insisted that “the quality of wines begins with quality in the work. There are no excuses for the violation of workers’ rights in a model sector that has managed to internationalize the province of Burgos.”
