Some tips to vote
This Sunday, July 23, 2023, the sixteenth General Court Elections are held in Spain. The vote will take place between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the polling stations installed in polling stations.
En este proceso electoral, independientemente de si se vota en persona o por correo, se vota con dos papeletas diferentes.
White and envelopes of the same color are for voting in the congressional elections. Political party candidacies for Congress appear on closed and blocked lists, meaning voters can only select a party’s ballot paper and not choose individual candidates or alter the order of the list.
Septic ballots and envelopes of the same color are for voting in the Senate elections. In this case, a party is not voted through closed lists, as it is done in Congress. The unique sepia (dark orange) ballot to elect senators picks up all candidates from all political formations who stand for election by each constituency. Voters must fill out the Senate ballot by marking with an ‘X’ up to a maximum of three candidates, i.e. they can choose from the same party, or different party, as well as marking 1, or marking 2, or marking 3.
As for those who have chosen to vote by mail, it is very important to remember that from the moment the voter has requested to vote by mail, if the request is accepted, he will no longer be able to vote in person at the polling station on the day of the elections.
No votes at the polling station
At the polling stations, the scrutiny is regulated in accordance with the provisions of Articles 95 et seq. of the LOREG. As for the null and void votes, the regulation is specifically found in Article 96.
Any discrepancy regarding the null votes, the electoral table will have to record it in the record of the session and, put in the corresponding envelope as indicated in the Manual of Members of the Electoral Table, they are sent to the Provincial Electoral Board. It shall be the latter who shall examine and determine in this regard, on the day of the final ballot, whether these votes are invalid or invalid, taking into account the minutes of the sitting.
