Castilla y León will receive 718,841 euros from the Government for the development of policies of prevention on drugs and care for other addictions

6 July 2023.- The plenary session of the Sectoral Conference on the National Plan on Drugs (PNsD) unanimously approved this morning the territorial distribution of more than 9.5 million euros intended to finance the development of drug prevention policies and care for other addictions by the Autonomous Communities and Cities (with the exception of Navarre and the Basque Country) in the current financial year 2023.

Castilla y León is the fifth community that will have more funds available, after Madrid, Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community. Thus, it will have a budget of 718,841.46 euros to develop the four programs: 249,156.64 euros, from the National Plan on Drugs; 252,731.43 euros for prevention of drug dependency; 72,187.61 euros, from the Spanish Observatory on Drugs, and 144,765.78 euros, for rehabilitation and reintegration programmes for drug abusers with legal and criminal problems.

In general, the amounts approved (Annex I) for this year are in fact distributed in these four programmes: development of the National Drug Strategy in the regional programmes derived from the National Drug Control Programme (Euro3,270,160); drug dependence prevention programmes within the framework of the National Drug Strategy (Euro3,962,630); development of the Spanish Drug Monitoring Centre (Euro1,033,290); and plans for the rehabilitation and reintegration of drug abusers with legal and criminal problems (Euro1,253,320).

In addition, it has been reported that an upcoming allocation of EUR 8.5 million will be made from seizures through bilateral agreements with all territories.

The Minister of Health, José Miñones, has meant the unity of action between administrations that characterizes the approach to addictions in Spain, which guarantees society as a whole to be carried “with rigor and the maximum guarantees”.

In this sense, he thanked all the public administrations involved, as well as the Third Sector and the scientific societies for the paradigm of consensus and will that they represent before a subject “with an indisputable health, social and citizen security impact”, such as that of addictions.

The plenary meeting held on Thursday was attended by the Government delegate for the National Drug Plan, Joan Villalbí, as well as representatives of all the communities and autonomous cities concerned, the Second Vice-Presidency and the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy; and the Ministries of the Interior; Consumption; Territorial Policy; Education and Professional Training; and Finance and Public Service.

The credits, provided through the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs, come from the General State Budgets, have the previous favorable report of the Ministry of Finance on the fulfillment of the objectives of budgetary stability and financial sustainability and were approved by the Sectoral Commission held on May 10.
