June 26, 2023.- The General Director of the Civil Guard, Leonardo Marcos, presided this morning over the event held on the occasion of the inauguration of Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Peñarroya Grande as the new head of the Soria Command. Lieutenant Colonel Peñarroya is in charge of Colonel Andrés Velarde, who has served him for the last nine years.
The CEO began his remarks by saying that Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Peñarroya Grande is perfectly prepared to carry out this position due to the long and brilliant professional career that supports him in the exercise of command through his previous destinations. The command of a unit is not something new for you, since in your previous destination you already exercised it in the Company of El Ejido, where I am aware that you have shown an outstanding performance.
Leonardo Marcos has said that the province of Soria has many peculiarities, which make it a unique land, a land characteristic for its people and for its great heritage. In this regard, he wanted to highlight the support that he will have from now on. You will count on the loyalty and dedication of the almost four hundred and fifty civil guards who serve in the Command, spread over almost 20 quarrels throughout the province.
In addition to the incalculable value of the staff under his command, the Director General has expressed that Lieutenant Colonel Sergio will have the support of the Government of Spain and the General Directorate, fully committed to this land and its citizenship.
Likewise, the Director General wanted to highlight two qualities that he hopes will be manifested in his command action, these are leadership and exemplification. Both are very united, because the exercise of command requires leadership capacity, and it is achieved with examples. Therefore, you must become a reference for your subordinates, something that is only achieved by showing you as an example of a spirit of service, dedication and dedication.
The Director General, wanted to mention the security in Spain of the demographic challenge where the Civil Guard has drawn up one of the main lines of its Strategic Plan, implementing the “Security Action Plan against the Demographic Challenge”, focused on meeting the security needs in these areas of Spain, an environment in which the Institution carries out much of its tasks and in which it stands as the main actor in the field of security. With this plan, we want to stick and take even more root in the territory, promoting attention to the citizens, making use of new technologies and mobile platforms. For all of this, the fundamental element is necessary, the human capital of the Civil Guard, our civil guards.

Lieutenant Colonel Peñarroya
Lieutenant Colonel Peñarroya was born in Melilla and obtained employment as a Lieutenant of the Civil Guard in 2003.
His first destination as a lieutenant was in the Company of Torre-Pacheco, belonging to the Command of Murcia, in the specialty of Citizen Security. After becoming captain in 2008, he was assigned as head of the Information Group of the Murcia Command. In 2013 he became a commander and was assigned to the El Ejido Company where he was in charge until February 2023. His promotion to lieutenant colonel took place on February 15, 2023.
The lieutenant colonel has been distinguished with numerous civil and military decorations, among which stand out the Cross of Military Merit; the Cross and the Commission of the Royal and Military Order of San Hermenegildo; several Crosses of the Order of Merit of the Civil Guard Corps, with white distinctive; Cross to Police Merit with white distinctive; to which are added various civil distinctions.
Soria Civil Guard Command
The Civil Guard Command in Soria assumes responsibility for citizen security in 182 municipalities of the province.
