June 20, 2023.- The Social Security registered in Castilla y León 75,011 foreign affiliates in the month of May, adding a total of 2,594,783 throughout the national territory, once the seasonality and the calendar effect were discounted. That’s 143 more than a month earlier. Since February 2020, before the impact of the pandemic, the system has recorded an increase of more than 405,000 workers from other countries.
In May, this figure represented 12.5% of the total number of Social Security participants in seasonally adjusted terms.
Average membership
In average terms and without seasonalizing, that is, in the original series, Social Security registered 2,680,993 foreign affiliates this month, which represents a growth of 74,310 affiliates compared to April. Of the total, 892,959 workers come from countries of the European Union (33.3%) and 1,788,034, from third countries (the remaining 66.7%). The largest groups of employed foreigners are from Romania (352,388), Morocco (339,939), Italy (176,107), Colombia (154,841) and Venezuela (137,620). Of the total, 55.6% are men, while 44.4% are women.
In the last twelve months, the average membership of foreign workers has grown by 10.5%, that is, it has added 252,368 employees.
64,800 Ukrainian affiliates
Among other nationalities, there are 64,796 affiliates from Ukraine. This is 17,537 more than in January 2022, when the war had not yet begun, which represents a growth of 37.1%.
The majority of workers from Ukraine, about 88.2 per cent, are covered by the General System (they are salaried) and 11.7 per cent are self-employed.
Regimes and sectors
In Castilla y León, 87.49% of foreign affiliates are in the General System, reaching a total of 65,265, for the 9,385 (12.11%) that do so in the Autonomous System.
In Spain as a whole, 85.6% of foreign affiliates are covered by the General System and account for 2,254,343. In May, they increased in all sectors of this regime. The busiest was Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing, (10.88%), followed by Hospitality, (6.87%). As for the special systems of the General System, the Agrarian System is especially increasing (5.9%), but the Home System is also growing (0.45%).
For its part, the Autonomous System registered 421,154 foreign affiliates. Of all the self-employed from other countries, 15% come from China, 11% from Romania and 8.9% from Italy.
