The N-631 will be cut off from the traffic starting next Monday day 5
The first phase of the works in the N-631 will be extended throughout the summer
June 02, 2023.- The Government subdelegate together with the head of the Highway Unit Adolfo Güell and the head of construction Guillermo Vicente, held this morning an informative meeting with the media to clarify the changes in the circulation of the N-631 as a result of the road rehabilitation works whose first phase began last Tuesday and which will last until the end of August.
Ángel Blanco highlighted the importance of the execution of “a work that is very necessary and much demanded by society. It is a very deteriorated road, which has been maintained in the last 30 years by patches so we must celebrate that, at last, we have started. The objectives are clear: to improve road safety mainly but also to preserve the State’s road heritage.”
Despite the importance of its implementation, the subdelegate wanted to point out that. “It is a very complex work in its execution because we have to make the work compatible with road mobility, the needs of the neighbors or any type of emergency. It is a very busy area that right now has an additional component with the trucks that are taking the wood out of the Sierra de la Culebra. That is why, above all, we want to make it clear that we will try to minimize all kinds of discomfort and for this, all kinds of signage and alternatives are being prepared to be able to circulate. It’s also important to add that neighbors and emergencies have the guaranteed pace.”
ALTERNATIVE DIVERSIONS
The construction manager Guillermo Vicente has explained the alternatives that from Monday and until the end of August all those who want to travel between kilometers 0 and 14.850 (at the height of Pozuelo de Tábara) will have to use in both directions. A stretch of road very frequented at these times of the year.
The main detour for long-distance travelers who travel to Galicia and from Galicia to Zamora, will be done by the A-66 by Benavente and then the A-6 and the A-52 until reaching Rionegro del Puente and towards Galicia by the same with normality.
As for local users who want to access especially the towns of Tábara and Pozuelo de Tábara or later towards Otero de Boda, their natural route would be to continue through the A-66 until linking to the road of Faramontano de Tábara to reach Zamora. Also in the opposite direction.
In both cases, signs and signboards are already being placed and even whenever necessary there will be staff at the roadside who will point the way to the pedestrians.
It is guaranteed the entry and exit of the neighbors that in these summer seasons the Urbanization La Encarenda is located. The passage of any type of emergency is also guaranteed. Doctors, firefighters or school routes. Guillermo Vicente has assured that “the machines will be separated and the pace will be left. The cut of the road is due to safety issues for pedestrians and also for the workers of the work because it is very narrow but obviously in case of emergency there will be no problems. In the event that the work was at that time on the Puente de la Estrella, the machinery would also be removed to let go.”
7.67 MILLION EUROS TO BE EXECUTED IN TWO PHASES
The first phase of the road rehabilitation works between kilometers 0 and 14,850 began last Tuesday, May 30 and will last until the end of August. The second phase, which will involve the settlement of the road to kilometre 56, will take place next year between the months of May and September.
The reason for restricting jobs to these months of greater circulation in the area is technical. According to Adolfo Güell, head of the Road Unit in Zamora: “ sustainable environmental techniques are incorporated in the execution of works thanks to the partial reuse of the current road surface. A novel process that requires a series of conditions, including good weather”.
The refurbishment of the N-631 is one of the most anticipated projects in the province. The MITMA formalized the contract for the execution of the works at the end of last year in the amount of 7.67 million pesetas for the execution of the works of the road firm between the kilometers 0.000 and 56,000 of the province.
This action is included within the conservation and maintenance program of the State Roads network, where MITMA has invested 58 million euros since June 2018 in Zamora.
