May 30, 2023.- The Government Subdelegation hosted this morning the meeting of the Provincial Subcommission on Road Education, created to promote collaboration between all Administrations and different public and private organizations in order to create a forum to analyze, debate and design actions to increase the dissemination of activities and contents of road education.
At the beginning of the meeting, the deputy delegate, Pedro de la Fuente, indicated to the attendees that “the numbers of victims worry us, because the number of deaths already rises to six people so far this year, and therefore the training is key to try to contain the accident in the province.”
De la Fuente considers that “training is one of the subjects to be considered as a tool to fight against this scenario. Road training that has to reach everyone, not only schools, but also the elderly, the elderly, the disabled or such important groups as cyclists,” he added.
For his part, the provincial head of Traffic, Raúl Galán, has pointed out that “this course is the first in which education in safe and sustainable mobility is taught at all educational stages”. For the first time, basic training in road safety will be included in the school curriculum in both Primary and Secondary and Baccalaureate. This will make it possible not only to develop habits of active, autonomous and healthy mobility among minors, but also to foster attitudes of respect that have an impact on the prevention of traffic accidents.
The educational resources, through different programs and materials, will be adapted to the specific needs of each stage. While in Primary they will be focused on promoting the values of active, healthy, safe and sustainable mobility, helping for example the extension of safe school roads, the incorporation of the bicycle as a habitual vehicle for schoolchildren or emphasizing new spaces and models of coexistence, such as the City30, in Secondary and Baccalaureate they will be more oriented to road safety values through programs or activities such as Scape Room or the European Safety Tunes Program.
Also relevant are the educational project ‘Magic Cobwebs’ which contributes to enhancing the school path through the use of manipulative material that rewards forms of active mobility when travelling to school and the European project STARS (Accreditation and Recognition of Sustainable Travel for Schools) which seeks to encourage and reward schools that promote sustainable and safe travel among their students, both on foot and by bicycle. The latter is aimed at primary, secondary and baccalaureate centers including both students and the entire educational community: parents, teachers, management teams and non-teaching staff.
The materials are available to all those who wish to use them on the DGT website (www.dgt.es) and through the Provincial Road Education Coordinators present at each Provincial Traffic Headquarters.
The DGT has also designed the educational resource ‘Itineraries’, a manual of activities for the road safety of the elderly aimed at professionals working with the elderly. It aims to provide content and information on priority road aspects to improve the road safety of older people either by acquiring/updating knowledge, identifying risky behaviors or acquiring/reinforcing safe road habits and behaviors.
In addition, in the course of the meeting it has been recalled that since 2021 the title of Senior Technician in Training for Safe and Sustainable Mobility has been incorporated into the training offer of Professional Training with many professional outlets.
Finally, for companies, the DGT has created the Seal of Safe Mobility in the Company, a public recognition for those companies that bet on reducing workplace road accidents within their prevention plans.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Civil Traffic Guard, Local Police of Burgos and Briviesca, Fire Fighters of Burgos, various services of the Territorial Delegation of the Junta de Castilla y León (Provincial Directorate of Education, Health Management of Burgos, Management of Primary Care, Territorial Management of Social Affairs, Territorial Office of Work and Road Service), Association of Auto Schools of Burgos, Federation of Parents and Mothers of Concerted Centers of Burgos, Federation of Electric Vehicle Associations
