Toledo.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, announced today in Toledo "the decision adopted by the Government of Spain and endorsed yesterday by the Congress of Deputies to declare the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral of Toledo as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest". An appearance before the media in which he has been accompanied by the dean of the Cathedral, Juan Pedro Sánchez Gamero.
Milagros Tolón recalled that it was last July 8 when “the Council of Ministers approved the Royal Decree-Law by which various initiatives are declared as events of exceptional public interest due to their exceptional nature, derived from their cultural, sporting or other relevance, their international dimension, their economic impact and the social impact they generate”.
A measure that, he stressed, “marked yesterday the Congress and that includes events such as the Tapies Year, the Centenary of Eduardo Chillida, the Jacobean Year 2027, the Centenary of the Generation of 27, the Comic-Con of Malaga and also the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral of Toledo”.
Tax incentives
The delegate of the Government recalled that these events of exceptional public interest “have become in recent years a valuable instrument to guarantee private financing in sports events and competitions, by facilitating access to tax incentives to entities that collaborate with their development.”
Because “the figure of Exceptional Public Interest Event is regulated by Law 49/2002 and allows companies and individuals who collaborate with the activities included in the official celebration program to benefit from significant tax deductions, much higher than those of general patronage”.
So, Milagros Tolón said, “with this decision opens up a set of possibilities that will allow us to give this event the impetus and projection it deserves. Among them, the important fiscal advantages for companies and private entities that collaborate in the celebration of the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral of Toledo stand out. These are very attractive incentives, which include deductions and bonuses that can reach 95% in Corporate Tax, Personal Income Tax or local taxes and fees.”
All those collaborating entities “will also be able to use the mention Event of Exceptional Public Interest in their advertising, which is an additional incentive for those who want to associate themselves with an initiative of high cultural value and the prestigious program of events that is already being developed and organized by the Cathedral Council”.
“A strategic opportunity”
Milagros Tolón has pointed out that it is “magnificent news for Toledo, for Castilla-La Mancha and for the whole of Spain, because with this declaration the Government of Spain recognizes the historical, cultural, patrimonial and spiritual transcendence of a commemoration that has deep roots in our identity as a country”.
So “we are facing a strategic opportunity for Toledo and for Castilla-La Mancha. This type of declaration not only represents an institutional recognition, but also allows us to mobilize economic resources, create employment, promote public-private collaboration and project our image in the world. The Cathedral of Toledo is not only a religious symbol, it is also a cultural, tourist and economic engine that has an impact on the well-being and prosperity of companies and citizens of our region.”
Commitment of the Government of Spain
The delegate recalled that “the Government of Spain demonstrates once again with deeds its commitment to culture, heritage and our region. And it does so by supporting a commemoration that will undoubtedly have an important national and international impact, and that will contribute to strengthening the cultural leadership of Toledo and its dynamic role within Castilla-La Mancha. So I want to extend my congratulations to all the institutions that have worked to make this statement possible.”
Milagros Tolón concluded by recalling the moment when “the Dean of the Cathedral presented the project to me, more than a year ago, and we set out to achieve what we are presenting to you today and that reaffirms the firm support of the Government for a project that unites history, art, faith and future. The VIII Centenary of the Cathedral of Toledo thus has a key tool to continue growing, add collaborators and go further. My congratulations to the Council for the work it is doing.”
“My thanks from the heart”
The dean of the Cathedral of Toledo, Juan Pedro Sánchez Gamero, expressed his gratitude “to the Government of Spain and to Milagros Tolón, delegate of the Government, for having recognized this VIII Centenary as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest and for collaborating so that our Cathedral and Toledo are the center of all eyes in 2026 and 2027. My gratitude from the heart is a sign of sensitivity towards our heritage, our history and our faith.”
A recognition of the Government of Spain “that opens the doors to a program of celebrations much more ambitious and with greater national and international projection, with the support of patrons and collaborating entities. I thank the government delegate for her commendable willingness so that companies from the region and Spain can collaborate and join in this celebration.”
