Guadalajara.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has presided over the inauguration of the new commissioner of the National Police in Guadalajara, Feliciano Díaz Campos, who has welcomed “what is and has been your home” and thanked “that you have chosen this city to deploy all your experience and vocation of public service”.
Milagros Tolón has highlighted the work of Commissioner Díaz Campos in his previous destination, Fuenlabrada (Madrid), “which you left located as the Spanish city with the lowest crime rate in cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. A model to follow in which he has been able to combine police action with a comprehensive approach to promote coexistence and security. You have my willingness and that of the entire Government Delegation to work together with the objective of continuing to make Guadalajara an increasingly safe city. And I wish you the greatest success in this new stage and that you also enjoy it with your family and loved ones.”
The Deputy Delegate of the Government in the province of Guadalajara, Susana Cabellos, the Mayor of Guadalajara, Ana Guarinos and the Councilor for Equality, Sara Simón, among other political authorities, as well as different representatives of the Security Forces and Bodies and civil society, have also taken office.
The work of the National Police
The delegate of the Government highlighted the work done by the National Police, “because, in addition to strengthening our security, it is a fundamental pillar of our rule of law, of our democracy and of our coexistence with 201 years of history in the service of the protection of the Spanish and Spanish. Together with the other State Security Forces and Corps, your daily work, often invisible, guarantees the security of our neighborhoods and the freedoms that we all share.”
Remembering some of the essential functions of its members, “from protecting the rights of the most vulnerable people to the fight against organized crime; from the fight against gender violence to new cybercrimes or the effects of climate change… The challenges you face are as broad as they are crucial.”
A diverse and vibrant city
Challenges that, said Milagros Tolón, “we also have in Guadalajara, a diverse, vibrant and constantly growing city. In this context, the work of the National Police is essential to ensure that all neighbours and neighbours can develop their daily lives in peace. Because Guadalajara is also a very safe city thanks to the work of the National Police in constant collaboration with the Local Police.”
The government delegate has also given figures on conventional crime, “which has remained in the same pre-pandemic ranks and have even declined in some cases. According to the latest published data (corresponding to the third quarter of 2024), we have fewer burglaries with violence or intimidation, fewer burglaries in homes and establishments and fewer burglaries than in the same period of 2019.”
“Guadalajara, a safe city in a safe region”
Milagros Tolón has said that the challenge now is “to improve these figures and deal with the increase in crimes related to cybercrime. In this area, the work of the State Security Forces and Corps is essential, as is prevention and public awareness. Guadalajara is a safe city in a safe region, with a crime rate that is more than 10 points below the national average in our region.”
And he insisted… “The Spanish Government will continue to work to reduce these figures and increase security in Castilla-La Mancha. To this end, the workforce has been increased by 20% in the last 7 years and will increase even more with the latest offer of public employment, which includes 2,707 places for the National Police.”
A commitment to security, recalled the delegate of the Government, “in which there is also the improvement of material resources and infrastructures. In Guadalajara we have an example of this with the beginning of the works of the new headquarters of the GEO, where the movements of land on the plot ceded by the City Council have already begun thanks to the management carried out by the former mayor, Alberto Rojo.”
GEO facilities
New headquarters of the GEO “in which around 30 million euros are going to be invested to provide state-of-the-art facilities to the elite unit of the National Police, a national and international reference closely linked to Guadalajara since its creation”.
And in all this work “we now have in Guadalajara the experience and professionalism of Feliciano Díaz Campos, with a recognized trajectory in all the destinations in which he has been, not only with the deserved decorations, but with a reputation as a cordial, close and consensual person”.
Milagros Tolón ended his speech “expressing my gratitude to all the men and women who are part of the National Police and the State Security Forces. Because thanks to you and you we can enjoy a more just, free and supportive society and the gestures of recognition and gratitude will never be enough.”
The new curator, a lover of his profession
For his part, Feliciano Díaz Campos, new commissioner of the National Police in Guadalajara, has stressed that he assumes the position “with a lot of motivation, and I am committed to serving my community by carrying out my work with integrity and total dedication. It is an honor to assume this position, which reflects not only my effort and sacrifice, but also those who have always been by my side.”
The commissioner has declared himself a lover of his profession, “to which I am enormously grateful, as well as all the colleagues of the National Police with whom I have coincided during these 43 years of service.”
