Toledo, November 25, 2024.- On the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women that is commemorated this November 25, the Government Delegation in Castilla-La Mancha has been the scene of an emotional minute of silence in memory of all the victims of gender violence.
The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has highlighted the importance of this day for society, indicating that it is a day of tribute, remembrance and support to the families of women who have been killed because of male violence.
Milagros Tolón has stressed that this day is also an occasion to make visible and claim the fight against gender violence, demanding a clear “enough is enough” before a reality that affects thousands of women throughout Spain. “This year, 40 women have been murdered by their partners or former partners in our country, two of them in Castilla-La Mancha,” said the delegate.
In his speech to the media, he thanked the presence and support of the Board of Communities and all the administrations involved in the fight against gender violence, while recalling that there are currently 5,612 active cases in the Viogén system in Castilla-La Mancha, which means that 5,612 women are receiving protection, attention, help and support to recover the dignity that was taken from them by their aggressors.
Commitment versus negationism
The government delegate has sent a clear message against the negationist policies that, she said, “limit women’s rights” and has insisted on the need for unity, but also a strong demand to eradicate violence against women. “Male violence continues to be a scourge in our society, and it is time to raise our voices and work together to end it,” he said.
In this regard, he stressed that the Government of Spain not only focuses its efforts in the month of November, with awareness campaigns and training throughout the national territory, but also fights against gender violence 365 days a year.
Milagros Tolón has recalled that male violence not only affects women, but also minors, who are direct victims of this situation. “It is time to move forward with active policies and to stop the negationism that still persists in our country,” he concluded.
More egalitarian society
With this symbolic act, the Government Delegation in Castilla-La Mancha reaffirms its commitment to the eradication of gender violence, recognizing the work of all institutions, professionals and associations that work every day to protect victims and to build a more egalitarian and violence-free society.
It was attended by the Subdelegate of the Government in Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia; the coordinator of the Delegation of the Board in Toledo, Javier Úbeda; the Councilor for Social Affairs, Inclusion, Family and Elderly of the City of Toledo, Marisol Illescas; members of the PSOE and IU groups in the Consistory of Toledo and representatives of the public administrations, civil society, entities and organizations, as well as representatives of the Armed Forces and Forces and Security Bodies of the State.
