Letur (Albacete).- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has expressed her support and solidarity with the families and friends of the victims, as well as with all the neighbors of Letur (Albacete), who are facing difficult times after the passage of the DANA. “We stand by them right now and offer them our full support.”
He said this after the first coordination meeting of the Plan Letur 2025-2028 in which he participated together with the first vice-president of CLM, José Luis Martínez Guijarro; the subdelegate of the Government of Spain in the province of Albacete, Miguel Juan Espinosa; the councillors of Development, Social Welfare and Education, Culture and Sports, Nacho Hernando, Bárbara García Torijano and Amador Pastor; and the mayor of Letur, Sergio Marín.
Milagros Tolón has thanked the dedication of the emergency services that are acting relentlessly. “I want to express my immense gratitude to each and every member of the emergency services. His effort is crucial to Letur’s recovery and the rescue of missing persons.”
The Government delegate stressed that the Government of Spain “is working on the urgency and the emergency. In the emergency because we are still looking for the four people who are still missing and today another unit of the GEAS (Group of Specialists in Underwater Activities) of the Civil Guard is going to be incorporated. In addition, tomorrow there will also be a Cynological Unit with dogs specialized in searching in the water.”
Mobilization of resources of the Government of Spain
The delegate of the Government has stated that from the first moment, the Government of Spain has made available all the necessary resources for the search of the disappeared and the restoration of the municipality. “The Government of Spain is mobilizing the necessary means for as long as is necessary to attend to the victims and rebuild Letur,” said the delegate.
As the President of the Government said, “we are not going to leave Letur’s neighbors alone; we are going to support the City Council and the families so that they can move forward as soon as possible.” The government delegate stressed that the unity of all will be key to overcoming this situation: “Together we are stronger and together we will move forward.”
Measures and aid of the Government of Spain
Milagros Tolón explained that the Government has activated several aid measures for those affected by the emergency in Letur:
1. Immediate aid in accordance with Royal Decree 307/2005, of 18 March, already available to be requested in the sub-delegations of the Government.
2. Declaration of an area seriously affected by an emergency scheduled for tomorrow, which will allow the implementation of additional support measures.
3. Insurance Compensation Consortium that will offer support to those affected.
These grants will be complementary to others that can be articulated by the General Administration of the State and other administrations.
Staff reinforcement plan
In order to expedite the processing of this aid, the Government of Spain will initially hire five people to strengthen the sub-delegations of Castilla-La Mancha: two in Albacete, two in Cuenca and one in Guadalajara. “This reinforcement in the templates will begin to work in the next few days and can be extended if necessary,” explained the delegate.
Humanitarian aid
Likewise, the Government will collaborate with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) to channel donations from individuals through the municipalities. In this regard, spaces will be made available in government delegations and subdelegations to facilitate the collection of these donations.
The government delegate concluded with a message of hope and unity: “Letur is not alone. Together we will overcome this difficult situation.”
