Toledo. The pedestrian route and bike path between Madrid Avenue and the Salto del Caballero roundabout made by the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Transport and Mobility is already open and in use for the citizens of Toledo capital. The aim is to promote active and sustainable mobility, ensure connectivity and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
The delegate of the Government, Milagros Tolón, has expressed her satisfaction for the implementation of this action, which means an improvement of security and mobility, giving way to a more friendly crossing, recovering public spaces for pedestrians thanks to the investment of the Government of Spain with funds from the European Union.
“This is an example of the importance of European funds to improve the daily lives of the residents of our towns and cities, with actions such as this that facilitate the connection between the neighborhoods through an intervention respectful of the environment and that allows comfortable walking or cycling in total safety,” said the delegate.
This intervention, which aims to give a more urban character to an existing two-way road that connects the avenue of Madrid with the Glorieta del Salto del Caballero in the regional capital, “is a sign of the commitment of the Government of Spain to the improvement of infrastructures in Toledo and Castilla-La Mancha and its commitment to sustainable urban mobility”.
“The Government of Spain has this region on its agenda with actions that favor the daily life of its inhabitants,” said the delegate, who reiterated that the Central Executive and, specifically, the Ministry of Transport, “is complying with the actions planned to improve connections and communications.” In this sense, the Ministry allocates 17 million euros to humanization projects in the province of Toledo alone.
Project details
The action that is already in use involves an investment of 1.3 million euros from the Ministry of Transport with funds from the Next Generation EU funds through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) of the Government of Spain.
The intervention takes place in vial 401a and consists of the pedestrian and cyclist connection between the roundabouts of the avenue of Madrid (at the intersection with the street of Paris) and the roundabout of the Salto del Caballero, in addition to the landscaping of the latter.
Drainage systems (collectors, sinks, downcomers, etc.), sidewalks, overhangs on the road of the connecting road between gazebo, signage and lighting with LED lamps have also been incorporated in both the new bike and pedestrian lane and in the gazebo of the Salto del Caballero.
The road is pedestrianically connected to the rest of the sports facilities in the area. The most singular of the intervention from the technical point of view are two slabs flown over the course of the stream of the Sawmill, to achieve the necessary width in two narrow points of the route, since in the rest said width is achieved within the lands of public domain.
The action is included in the PRTR within the program of humanization of crossings, which plans to invest up to 105 million euros throughout the national territory to promote a more sustainable, inclusive and accessible urban environment. This is intended to promote the configuration of cities oriented to return spaces for other forms of alternative mobility to the car and to guarantee the physical connectivity of people.
