Toledo. A total of 1,606,974 voters are called to vote in Castilla-La Mancha in the next European Parliament elections to be held on Sunday, June 9, and the delegation of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has reported on Tuesday.
The objective of the deployment, which has been coordinated by the Government Delegation, “is that everything is prepared for the voting day to be held in freedom and with all the guarantees for the electors of our community,” said the delegate.
Milagros Tolón explained that on Sunday, June 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the 1,437 polling places will be opened in the 919 municipalities of Castilla-La Mancha, where a total of 3,084 polling stations will be available.
Foreign residents
In Castilla-La Mancha, 1,606,974 voters are called to vote, of which 38,086 are residents abroad. The countries with the highest number of Castilian-Manchego residents with voting rights are France (8,903), Germany (3,836), the United Kingdom (3,473) and Argentina (3,304).
As far as new voters are concerned, more than 100,000 young Castollanomanchegos have reached the age of majority since the last European Elections, held in 2019, and will be able to vote for the first time in these elections. With regard to the last elections, the Generals of 2023, 18,071 young people have been included in the electoral census.
Envelopes, urns and booths
For this event, more than 1.6 million voting envelopes have been distributed to the municipalities and 4,673 ballot boxes and 3,448 booths will be used, which have also been distributed. As for the postal vote, Correos has received a total of 22,479 requests throughout Castilla-La Mancha for the postal vote.
In addition, voting material in braille will be distributed to the 41 blind people who have requested it in Castilla-La Mancha: 17 in Ciudad Real, 8 in Guadalajara, 11 in Toledo and 5 in Albacete.
“These elections also require a significant mobilization of human resources,” said the delegate, who referred to the 9,252 people who will make up the electoral tables between presidents and members; 895 members of the Provincial and Zone Electoral Boards and Justices of the Peace; 2,010 collaborators of the provincial subdelegations and municipalities and 1,798 representatives of the General Administration of the State.
To this must be added the staff of the Electoral Census Offices and Post Office officials who will take the vote by mail to the schools, in addition to the staff mobilized by the Board of Communities of Castilla-La Mancha.
Security Forces and Corps
On the other hand, “the security forces will also be present at this meeting,” said the delegate, who stressed that “for everything to happen with all guarantees and in full freedom, almost 6,000 Civil Guard, National Police and Local Police officers will participate in the monitoring of the process from 00.00 hours on June 9 until the end of the counting and delivery of the electoral records.”
In short, “a great work of coordination so that the citizens of Castilla-La Mancha can vote in freedom and so that the day develops with total normality”.
